How to Make Money on HubPages - Step by Step

Bucks $$, Pounds ££ and Euros €€

There are so many new writers on HubPages looking to start making money online that I've decided to write a series of hubs on "How to Make Money on HubPages" for new hubbers.

If you are not already a member of HubPages you can SIGN UP HERE.

First off - Welcome! HubPages has a strong and vibrant community of writers that are genuinely willing to help and support each other. Personally, I love to help new hubbers and so you'll often find me answering questions in the Questions and Answers section or in the Need Help Forum and also welcoming those who are new to the HubPages writing arena.

Help!

Most of what you need to know about HubPages can be learnt from the very useful help section (which I suggest every new hubber reads) and by using the search box to look for hubs and forum posts that can help with your query. Of course, you can also use this hub and the ones to follow, to answer your questions about how to make money on HubPages!

Is it Really Possible to Make Money on HubPages?

Yes it is! But you do need to be realistic about how long it will take and be prepared to learn a great deal about how to make money writing online. I think earning $100 a month by your fourth month here, is a reasonable goal for anyone who writes on HubPages for money. Once you know how to do that, you can increase your earnings exponentially to create a healthy residual income* - the only potential limiting factors are the amount of hours in a day and your motivation to succeed!

*Residual income means earning long term from one piece of work. E.g. One article written today can continue to earn money for years to come.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Advantages of Writing on HubPages

  • Adverts on your Hubs are optimized for maximum Click Through Rate (CTR) by YieldBuild.
  • Write once - earn for years! You may not see an immediate financial return on your articles but if you choose the right topics, they can continue to earn money for years to come.
  • The structure of the website is arranged in such a way as to maximize search engine rankings.
  • Your hubs (articles) get indexed quickly by search engines
  • Your hubs can get onto the first page of Google search a lot more quickly than other web pages can.
  • HubPages has PageRank 6 which means Google sees HubPages as a high authority website.

What is a Hub?

Many of the new recruits seem confused about what kind of writing platform HubPages is. Firstly, HubPages is not a blogging website. A blog is more like a personal journal that is updated regularly.

HubPages is essentially an article writing site, and your articles can be on whatever subject you choose to write on. Each hub or article you write is a stand alone web page. You can write a series of hubs on a topic and group them together or you can write on a topic just once - it's up to you.

The beauty of HubPages is that you can mix and match topics, write for pleasure and write for money.

How Long Does it Take to Earn Money at HubPages?

From my experience it takes 3 - 4 months to start seeing any reasonable income from Hubpages, but it depends on how many articles you publish, what topics they are on and how good your articles are. I would aim to write at least 2-3 quality hubs per week.

Other HubPages Terms

Hubber - A member of hubpages

HubNugget - An internal hubpages competition to find the best hubs from new writers. To be eligible to be a HubNugget, you must have joined HubPages within the last 60 days. You must also have an author score of 75 or higher.

HubChallenge - Could you write 30 Hubs in 30 Days? If you think you can write 30 quality articles in a month - start now!

HubMob- Stuck for something to write on or just want extra readers and traffic? The HubMob encourages writers to write hubs on weekly topic decided by the HubMob Team.

Understanding Online Gobbledygook

If you've already checked out the forums, you'll probably have seen threads on topics such as:

  • Backlinking
  • SEO
  • Meta-tags
  • Search Engine Marketing
  • Keywords
  • Long Tail Keyphrases
  • Serps
  • Tags
  • Affiliate Programs
  • Pagerank
  • Increasing Traffic

..... and a multitude of other subjects that all sound like gobbledygook! You may have done some google research too in an attempt to understand all these terms and find out what they actually mean.

It can be mind blowing and totally overwhelming trying to learn all of these new things at once - I know that's how it felt to me when I started working online anyway. Should I start with backlinking or keywords? Social bookmarking or content sharing? Traffic generation or affiliate programs? This hub will tell you.

Baby Steps Lead to Big Strides

Learn Step by Step

Making money with HubPages or any other online venture and using your time wisely, requires a step by step approach to learning. The explanations of terms you'll see below are in order of what needs learning when. It took me quite a while to sort out the order of what to do and when to learn about what, because each element is interlinked, but I have made them flow as best I can from one to the other.

Where to Begin Making Money on HubPages?

So where should you actually start? The first thing I'm going to do is explain what the all different terms mean and we'll go from there. For some of the terms on this list I will be writing a full length hub, for other terms I will direct you to information already available from myself, other hubbers or the help section and yet other terms that require shorter explanations will be grouped within topic specific hubs or simply explained here.

As time goes by, and I write more hubs for the series of how to make money on HubPages, I will post links to those articles here, next to their corresponding subtitles.

Interact - Tell Me What You Want to Know

If there's a term you need explaining, leave a comment in the box at the bottom or drop me an email. I'll add explanations of terms you suggest to this hub as they arise.

A Tool to Help You Earn Big Bucks Online

I recommend Market Samurai's software package for those who are serious about creating an online income. My own earnings have increased over 300% since I started using it and it's become a tool I can't live without.

1. Keywords and Long Tail Keyphrases (Finding Long Tail Keywords)

Learning how to make money on Hubpages hinges on you learning all about keywords and keyphrases and how to use them effectively - it's 100% essential! Without understanding this fundamental area of knowledge your pages will more often than not, struggle to draw search engine traffic. If you don't get visitors from search engines such as Google, Bing and Yahoo you will not get clicks on your ads and you will not earn from Amazon - it's that simple.

So before you start writing hubs make sure you know what keyphrases are and how to search for them. Google's keyword tool is the most popular free keywprd research tool. There are other options for keyword research, but I suggest getting the hang of this one first and then moving onto other options.

2. URL's

A Url is a web pages' address. Each webpage has it's own url or address, just like houses in a street. Many new hubbers ask what URL they need to give to adsense and amazon as their web address. Well unless you have other websites or blogs the url you need to give is your HubPages profile url. To get this cick on the "my profile" tab at the top of the page and look in your browser bar. The url will look like this http://hubpages.com/profile/your+user+name

URL's are also more than just a webpage address - they also go a long way in terms of telling search engines what your page is about. So when you start writing your hubs, carefully choosing the url of the page is really important. I suggest choosing url's that are:

  • around 5 words in length (I wouldn't go anymore that 8 normally)
  • use your main keyphrase in the url

3. Content (Content and What Topics to Write About)

Content simply means the written text in your article. Click the link above to read all about how to get ideas for what to write on, how much to write and how to write a quality hub.

- Evergreen Topics - Evergreen Content

An evergreen topic is one that people will still be searching for in years to come. So an example of a topic that is not evergreen would be a commentary on the latest local election results. This topic will be short lived and relevant for only a short period of time. But something like how to change a car tyre is an evergreen topic - people will want to know how to do that for years to come.

- Niche Topics - How to Find A Niche

A niche topic is one that is narrow in it's focus and tends not to have too much competition on the internet. But as more and more people write on the internet and set up websites and blogs, niche topics can be hard to find.

4. SEO - Search Engine Optimization

As the phrase suggests, search engine optimization is about making sure that your pages are search engine friendly. When search engines such as Google crawl or in other words, search through webpages, they are looking for certain elements that tell them how to index the page and where to place it on the search engine results pages. To make money by writing on the internet your pages need to be search engine friendly. If you're new to SEO then I recommend reading Peter Hoggan's Basic SEO Course.

5. Affiliates and Affiliate Marketing (Top Ten Affiliate Networks)

An affiliate is someone who sells a product or service on behalf of another company and gets a percentage of what the sale is worth. Making money on hubpages relies on hubbers being affiliates with particular companies. The main affiliate programs available on HubPages are Google Adsense, Amazon and Kontera.

  • Adsense

  • Amazon

  • Kontera (you need at minimum 10,000 page views a month to make it worthwhile)

  • Ebay (no longer accepting hubbers)

You can also sign up for other affiliate programs outside of HubPages and market them here, but unless you already have experience with affiliate marketing, I would strongly suggest waiting before you do this.

6. Hub Layout

Your hub layout needs to be aesthetically pleasing and readable for an online audience. Surfers tend to skim read, looking quickly for the information that they want, so large chunks of text are not helpful. I will be writing a full length hub on this topic soon, but in the meantime here are a few useable tips.

  • Write in short paragraphs (2-4 sentences)
  • Use several text capsules.
  • Use plenty of subtitles
  • Use bulleted or numbered lists

The best way to learn about what capsules are available and how you can arrange them is by playing around with them. Read here for the basics about adding, removing and moving capsules.

7. Traffic

Traffic relates to how many visitors you get to your pages. The traffic or visitors can come internally - from within HubPages, or externally - from search engines and other websites. Traffic from external websites, such as search engines, is far more important than internal traffic from HubPage members. HubPage members will not buy your products or click on the ads on your pages, so while it is nice to get recognition of your work from with the HubPages community, it is not an essential requirement of making money on HubPages.

The best way to get traffic to your pages is by making sure they are on the first page of Google's search results. You will have substantially increased the likelihood of getting good search positions if you have followed the previous steps on Keyword Research, Content Writing and SEO.

8. Tags (Use of Tags to Drive Google Traffic)

Tags, such as the ones you're prompted to choose for your hubs, help a website categorize topics within subject areas. They also help search engines find your pages so make you use the keywords or keyphrases that you are trying to rank for. The tagging system is more complicated than this, because "tag pages" can also give backlinks to your hubs. In general, I suggest using a mix of broad topic tags as well as more specific tags. So if your hub is about How to Travel Around South Africa, use broad tags such as travel, south africa, vacation, etc. and more specific tags such as "train travel in south africa", south africa bus routes etc.

**One thing to realise is that every tag you use needs to be in the actual article otherwise it may not be counted.**

For indepth information on the best use of tags and tagging for your HubPages read this excellent article on tags by johnr54.

9. Adsense Channels

Once you have been given your adsense ID by Google, have activated it in your "affiliate settings" in the "my account" section of HubPages, and have written one hub. It is time to learn how to create adsense channels to track each hubs' earnings. This is very important imformation because you will be able to see which hubs are earning you money and which aren't. This info can guide you on what to write more of and what to write less of.

10. Google Analytics (How to Use Google Analytics)

While HubPages provides information on your hub statistics such as numbers of page views over various time periods, numbers of comments, how visitors came to your page etc, it does not provide any in depth analysis. Google analytics will give you more information than you probably know what to do with but it is very, very useful in tracking the performance of your individual hubs. Sign up for Google Analytics here.

11. SEM - Search Engine Marketing

Just like any other start up business, you need to get the word out about what you are doing and what you can provide. In other words, you need to market yourself to make sure that people know about your company and to ensure you stand out form the competition. In the offline world this would be done through branding, press releases, advertising, holding special events and attending sales fairs.

Getting the word out about what you are doing online is similar to the offline world, but it is also different in many ways. There are free and paid methods of marketing your online work, but for HubPages you only need to think about the free options.

- Backlinks - What is a Link Plus Types of Links Explained (NEW!)

Once you've decided to make a go of writing online for money it won't be long before you hear about backlinks, one way links and quality links. All of these terms mean the same thing. Backlinking means creating hyper links to your pages from other websites. These are an important element of search engine marketing, but it is not as important as getting your page structure right. So concentrate on making your pages search engine friendly before thinking about backlinking.

- Content Sharing Websites -

In the last few years there has been an upsurge in content sharing websites, mainly created by online marketers who wanted to provide a legitimate way for online writers and webmasters to get backlinks to their work. Once you've mastered the art of optimizing your web pages, it is worth sharing your work on these websites to create backlinks and increase traffic. Many offer adsense revenue sharing (earn from ad clicks on your pages), and you can get a decent amount of visitors directly from these websites as well.

- Social Bookmarking - Top 25 Social Bookmarking Sites

Some internet marketers advocate using social bookmarking websites such as Facebook, Twitter, StumbleUpon, Delicious and Digg to promote their work, services and products. In my opinion and experience, unless you have a big presence on any of these sites, with lots of qualified followers, you will not get much monetary benefit from promoting on social bookmarking websites. And if your contact lists are mostly friends and family they will soon get fed up with you trying to sell them something! The best you can usually expect is a little flurry of traffic (visitors), but no clicks or sales, making social bookmarking as a promotional method pretty poor.

12. SERPs (Search Engine Results Position)

Once you really get into making money on HubPages, you're going to come across this term and probably wonder what the heck it means! Serps just means where your page shows up on the google search results for your chosen keyphrases. Think about it this way: say you need to buy a new dishwasher and decide to use Google to search for one. You type in "cheapest dishwasher" in the google search box, hit return and you will get a list of webpages that are offering the "cheapest dishwashers". You will most likely check out the websites that are listed on the first page and buy from one of those companies. It would be very unlikely to go to page 37 of the search results and buy a cheap dishwasher from one of the websites listed on that page. That's why SERP's are important - you want to get your page on the first page of the search results and if possible, at number one.

13. PageRank

I've explained this term before in other articles, so I will just do a quick explanation here. PageRank is a system google uses to assess the authority of individual webpages. It usually takes a long while to get a pagerank above 2 or 3 because one of the main factors in the pagerank algorithm is how long the page has been published on the web.

Writing For the Web

Don't buy ebooks - buy real books! A lot cheaper and leaner than your average ebook, this book has 384 pages stuffed full of information about how to write for the internet.

"Redish has done her homework and created a thorough overview of the issues in writing for the Web.

Ironically, I must recommend that you read her every word so that you can find out why your customers won't read very many words on your website -- and what to do about it."

"This is hands-down the best book on writing for the web out there. The book is beautifully laid-out, with easy to grasp, common sense advice - all backed up by solid research data and straightforward examples."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And finally....

Phew - we're at the end.....for now anyway! I'm looking forward to hearing what else you would like explained to help you learn how to make money on Hubpages. Good luck!

Great article Susana. I'm like you, not as successful though :), but I like too to go for quality instead of quantity. In my newbie opinion someone has good quality when the ratio between hubs and followers is around 10 followers per each hub, so someone with 300 hubs should have at least 3000 followers. Yours is bigger than that.

Great hub, rated up, bookmarked and now I'll check back my hubs and try to make them better. Thanks.

Ops I forgot a piece: I meant good quality from around 5xhubs and great quality around 10xhubs. I'm still below that but working on it. :)

Hey BC:) I was just thinking to myself the other day about where you had got to. I always enjoyed your humour in the forums, so it's great to see that you're still here :)

Hi Hypnodude - glad to hear you're a quality guy! I like your theory about the ratio of followers to hubs too :) Glad you enjoyed the hub.

Patti-Ann - hiya :) The amazon capsules are more visible underneath text, than to the right. In my experience people tend to ignore them in when they're on the right. I've been experimenting with amazon capsules and also looking at the work of Nelle Hoxie who does brilliantly with amazon. The capsules definitely get more sales when they are in the readers face!

Hey Dohn - really nice to see you :) And thanks for the praise - it is much appreciated. I couldn't believe it when I checked the word count on this hub - it's over 3000 words! But newbies so much to learn about.

Hi SEO Expert - thanks for stopping by :)

Hi, Susana! I am so grateful for having come across this article. I too will bookmark it and use as a reference tool.

I have been writing with hub pages for a while now, but not experiencing any great positive feedback socially or financially.

Because of your valuable article, I will now have to go back and do some editing and tweaking with my existing hubs. I may have quite a bit of work ahead of me.

feel free to view some of my articles and maybe you could give me some suggestions. I would really, really, really appreciate it!!

Thanks for such a refreshing article, Susana!! Best Regards.

Hi uliveulearn - thanks for bookmarking :) I wouldn't say my results where that impressive, lol, but I think once you've got the basics right you can take it as far as you want to. I'm aiming for a hub a day this year.

Madison - thanks for your comment :) Nice to know this hub will be of help to you.

HappyFlower - What a great name you have:) Most of the links you place on social bookmarking sites are "No Follow", so no you don't get a backlink. But you may get some traffic from them if you have a big list of friends or followers.

I would recommend joining content sharing websites as the links from those are nearly all "DoFollow" and you'll get visitors from them as well. I wrote a hub about them here: http://hubpages.com/hub/techniques-strategies-prom

Getting backlinks is important but I'm going to keep banging on about this: Do your keyword research first and optimize you pages for your specific keyphrases, then think about backlinks afterwards!

Hey Derek - thanks for your very positive comment :) It is hard work for sure!

Nice hub. Can I ask something stupid? Just to be clear... what is the difference between tags and keywords, or are they the same?

When you put a keyword or phrase in the boxes before you create the URL, does hubpages turn them into tags or do you have to do that somewhere else, for which I have yet to find?

Thanks x

Susana S profile image

Susana S Hub Author 2 years ago

Hi Shazwellyn - it's not a stupid question at all! I didn't get it for ages....Are tags and keywords the same? Sort of, yes and no. The best explanation I've seen is the hub I ointed out by johnr54. You can also do a bit of research on one of your own hubs to learn about tags. Click on the tags one by one - if you have a pagerank tool installed on your toolbar, you'll be able to see if your hubs are on any of the tag pages with high PR. This is ideally what you want to achieve.

Hubpages gives you tag suggestions, but does create them automatically. On the right side of each hub you will see a tag section, where you can add or remove tags.

Thanks for stopping by :)

Hi Susana S. I'm just thrilled from reading your Hub, Great Stuff, It will take about 3 days to make notes and exsorb it all, I'm like a kid in a candy store here. Ha! I have 25 questions already, but after I go through all the links, I will be knocking on your other hubs. I loved the one about cookies for all the browsers. Lord knows how I could use a few extra bucks, because I'm on social Security, but I only have 10 Hubs, with 500 hits, and your Achievement scale says I'm along way from really worrying about profit,as you pointed out, quality and subject matter first, earn my status. $'s will follow, thank so much for this Hub. Backing up, lol :) Mr Nice - I can't tell you since when Ebay stopped acepting hubbers, here's the notice on the HP help page: http://hubpages.com/faq/#ebay

Hubbers that already have an EPN account can still use it on Hubpages. Hubbers that have their own website may get accepted. If they do they can use their affiliate ID here as well.

Sorry I can't help answer your question on clicks and income on ebay - I've never had an account with them so I don't know how it works. Might be worth asking in the forums or sending Ebay an email.

As far as HubPages is concerned, my favorite sentence you wrote is: "I've gone for the quality route on hubpages, rather than quantity."

Now, if only some of these spammy looking how-to articles would diminish from HubPages, I'd thank you even more. I'm still waiting on some of these supposed "elite" writers to do a hub on how to tie your shoes properly...how boring & lame. As I've noticed, AdSense can also make some people lose sense.

Anyway, keep up the good work.

Susana S profile image

Susana S Hub Author 2 years ago

Hi Obscurely Diverse....don't think we've met - so hello :) Unfortunately there is more and more shite to be found on hubpages - we are all tasked with reporting it and getting it removed. So if you do see any hubs in this category don't think twice about reporting them!

Funny that you talk about the "elite" status given to some hubbers. I was given it and then told them I didn't want it! So no "E" for me, lol ;) But to be honest if "how to tie your shoes properly" was a much searched keyphrase and had no competition I might be tempted to write on it, lol.

The hub I get most traffic from (about 500-700 views a day) was an idea from hubpages ideabank - how to descibe yourself. I am an adsense whore and proud, lol!

Don't think we've met? Aren't you the "AdSense whore" that once posted a comment & left links all up on my post:

http://hubpages.com/hub/4th-5th-Dimensions-Time-Tr

Ha-ha!

At least you're proud and funny, too...ha-ha!

Okay, snap out of it and go do that page on how to tie my shoes...I'm lost and need help, direction and guidance upon thee or me...for my laces can't support the complex entanglement without you.

I initially began my writing venture on HubPages to make money, but when I found out how hard it was I was hooked on writing, so I just decided to write for fun. However, I'm back to trying to earn money, so I definitely need articles such as these. This is actually the manual that I need to learn how to earn money. So thanks for the hard work you put into it.

Great article Susana. WryLilt bought it to my attention in the forums so I came on over to check it out. Its fantastic and every new hubber should read it - especially those who are very unfamiliar with the buzz words of internet marketing.

I'm still unclear about what long tail key phrases are. Do they have several key words in them? Do you use the whole phrase when using Keywords search tool?

Susana S profile image

Susana S Hub Author 22 months ago

Thanks WryLit - glad it was useful to you :)

Hi travelespresso - a long tail keyphrase is any search term with 3 or more words. The best way to get your head around it is to think about the type of searches YOU put in the google search box. If you were looking for info on making money from home for instance, you might type in "home work opportunities", "work from home jobs" or something along those lines. They are long tail keyphrases.

To find out the monthly search volume for the exact phrase in google's keyword tool (the older version) type in the exact phrase, uncheck the use synomyns box, click on get keyword ideas, then on the right of the screen it says "match type". It's default setting is broad - change it to exact. You'll then get the number of how many people are typing in the exact term per month in that word order.

I hope that makes sense!

thanks

Susana S profile image

Susana S Hub Author 19 months ago

Hi Tiza - I don't do much in the way of social bookmarking. I find it pretty pointless because the visitors you get don't normally click ads or purchase products ie: it doesn't make money.

Like I said in this article, the very first thing you need to learn and understand to make money from your content is keyword research. My advice would be to forget about anything else until you know how to do this effectively. Have a play with google's keyword tool and google wonderwheel and learn how to assess the publisher competition for a particular phrase, then you'll be good to go :)

I was wondering if you ever wrote the hub about how to format hubs which you mention in #6, Hub Layout, above. Needless to say, your hubs are beautifully formatted and I'd love to know some more of your secrets. Thanks!

Susana S profile image

Susana S Hub Author 16 months ago

Hi PWalker - thanks :) No I never did get around to writing that hub. I've been experimenting with different layouts for adsense hubs and amazon hubs for a while now trying to see which provides the most revenue. For adsense I would advise a 250 word text box at the top, then a 100 word text box - this gives the format on this page - all the ads are in the top portion of the page: http://hubpages.com/hub/how_to_know_pregnant

Amazon/Ebay might be better laid out differently e.g. with a amazon capsule floated right on the first text box and highlighted blue. Not certain yet though.

I don't have any secrets really - I like to share what I've learned. There's a few nuggets here if you fancy a read on my journey with amazon: http://hubpages.com/hub/amazon-affiliate-program-s

Does using the ability that hubpages encourages you to use to link to other hubpages really benefit you or does it mostly just benefit hubpages? does 'hub karma' really make any difference at all? Or do you think its a bad idea because all it does is send people away from your own hubs.

Susana S profile image

Susana S Hub Author 15 months ago

I think interlinking pages is a good thing to do in moderation (the search engines like it a lot, which is why Hubpages encourages it) but I will always prioritise linking to my own pages first and foremost. Occasionally I will link to other people's hubs if I feel it will benefit the reader, though only to ones that are very relevant and are high quality. If I'm linking to someone else's hub I'll usually put my referral tracker in too.

I certainly wouldn't recommend linking to someone else's hub in the first few paragraphs or in other words before the main ad blocks, as that could cause a loss of revenue.

I'm a marriage counselor and behavioral parent train expert. Is it possible to build such a volume of page reads as yours with in these 2 writing niches, in contrast to someone who is more topic flexible? If so what are your suggestions for writing inside of my field of expertise?

Gratefully,

- Duddy.

Hi Duddy, Writing on one or two niches is good as you can build up an authority on a topic, both in the eyes of readers and search engines. Volume of page reads comes down to keyword research, no matter what the niche. Before you write a hub you need to find a phrase which matches what you want to write about, gets plenty of searches per month (over 3,000) and has low competition from other pages on the web.

Also when writing in one niche pay extra attention to the tags you use. I recommend using 2 or 3 generic phrases on each hub within a niche e.g. parenting, childrens behavior; plus as many hub specific ones as the hubpages system will allow (around 20).

Have fun!

Susan. Any chance you can write a detailed Hub on Market Samurai? Is it really worth the money? What difference does it make right now in your page views after the panda Google changes? How often does it bring up false-positives/leads(a real problem these days)for strong SEO key words?

Thank you again,

- Duddy.

thanks a lot for this useful and very informal hub! I will really use some of your tips listed here with my hubs :)

Susana S Hub Author 13 months ago

Hi Duddy, I honestly think Market Samurai is worth the money. It has had some problems since Panda (which they are adapting to), but it just makes life much easier and quicker when you want to assess competing pages and check your own serps progress. Yes, all that can be done manually but it is time consuming.

The keyword generator just uses google's keyword tool so I've never had a false positive as such. If you only search for broad match rather than exact match then you can get less accurate data about search volume.

I haven't written anything for hubpages since Panda(my traffic is down from around 6,000 views per day to 2,000) but I am still using MS for keyword research on clients websites.

Really like this Susana, very helpful. How do you rate Hubpages compared with your own site? (which I have just looked at and is coming along well)

Hubpages is a good platform if you don't want to get into developing your own website/s or want a starting point, but don't make the mistake I did and put all your eggs in one basket (especially one you have no control over). I used to make over $1000 per month here - since the Google changes (Panda) it's considerably less and now I'm working hard on building more of my own websites.

Honestly, how much hubs do u need to make about 300$ at month? Is it possible? Thx

Susana S profile image

Susana S Hub Author 4 months ago

Hi MsKejci, you need to think in terms of traffic rather than number of hubs. To earn $300 on HP ads per month you'd need in the region of 3000 visitors per day. That's possible with any number of hubs.

smiileyfacexo profile image

smiileyfacexo Level 1 Commenter 4 months ago

Good question Ms Kejci! I didn't know that making $300 is possible in terms of traffic. I thought it was more on writing quantity and quality hubs. Thanks for that.

Susana S profile image

Susana S Hub Author 4 months ago

You can write 100's of quality hubs but if no one is searching for those topics they won't get much traffic and therefore won't earn much. It's traffic that pays. The formula for earning online is well written, quality articles, on topics that have moderate to high search volume, in niches that aren't over-saturated.

Thx so much, I see clear now :D I thought as more hubs u have u earn more, but now I see that the traffic is actually all that maters in this internet work. Thx again

Wow! I've searched 100's of websites and found several articles that touched on the things you have here. I'm sure a few of them have great content but the issue they have and I have with them is, I can't stand to read their work. Thank you for an intelligible and well-written article.

Very helpful information, thank you very much. There is so much to learn about writing online, but I am determined to master it.

My time is limited as to how many hours I can write a week since I work full time as a registered nurse and operate a part-time home sewing business. My goal is to slowly transition from working full-time as a nurse to working full-time at home with my sewing business and writing. This hub will definitely help me with this transition. Vote up!
