Buy 3D Glasses for Gaming, TV and Movies

The future of gaming, TV and movies is definitely in 100% spectacular 3D. Did I say the future? I should have said NOW! The joy of actually being inside the action instead of simply being an observer is already here!

There are increasingly more and more products coming onto the market that will enable us all to enjoy 3D gaming, TV and movies to the maximum. Before you buy make sure you are purchasing the correct 3D glasses for the media or hardware you have. Learn which 3D glasses do what and in what context.

Having done a huge amount of research on 3D products (and also using some myself) it's clear that for a Real 3D experience you need quite a bit more than just 3D glasses. In addition you'll definitely require a 3D Ready TV or computer monitor, IR Emitter, and possibly extra software as well. But don't despair - many of these products are reasonably priced (especially at Amazon) and they are pretty easy to set up too.

So let's look at what 3D glasses are available, what each type of 3D glasses are for, how good they are and what you should be spending your money on to get the most out of the 3D revolution.

First off there are three types of 3D glasses:

• Anaglyph 3D Glasses
• Polarized 3D Glasses
• Stereoscopic (Active Shutter) 3D glasses

Let's have a look at the differences and what kind of media you can watch with each type. Then we'll move onto some of the other really cool 3D products you'll need for a complete 3D set up including:

• nVidia's GeForce 3D Vision Kit
• 3D Capable Monitors
• 3D HDTV's

These are the old style anaglyph 3D glasses we're all used to using at the movies and more recently we've been using them at home to view 3D DVD's like My Bloody Valentine, Friday 13th, Coraline, Polar Express and Shrek 3D. Anaglyph 3D glasses have their place in the market and are effective with the red/green 3D overlay. If you're looking for a low cost 3D experience when watching your favorite 3D movies then buying a sturdy pair of anaglyph 3D glasses is for you.

Anaglyph 3D glasses will not work with gaming consoles, PC games, non analyglyph 3D movies or 3D Ready TV's.

A quick word on polarized 3D glasses - If you've been to the cinema recently to see Avatar or one of the latest 3D offerings then you'll recognize these 3D glasses. These are only suitable for polarized 3D movies at the movies, and not anaglyph, polarized or stereoscopic film at home.

Polarized glasses such as these are also not compatible with console gaming (PS3, Xbox or Wii), nor PC gaming. While absolutely great for 3D movies at the cinema - they will not work at home even if you have a 3D Ready TV.

These active shutter (or stereoscopic) 3D glasses are the ones that are going to give you that RealD total immersion 3D experience. If you've got a bit more money to spend and you want to experience truly exhilerating 3D entertainment, whether it be through gaming on your PC, PS3 or Xbox or watching 3D Blu Ray Movies and the new 3D ready TV channels on your 3D TV, then you're going to need to invest in a pair of active shutter, stereoscopic 3D glasses.

nVidia's GeForce 3D Vision Kit includes a pair of high end stereoscopic glasses and is the best value system at under $200. In comparison, XpanD's stereoscopic kit is a hefty $769.

If you're thinking about buying a 3D Ready DLP HDTV or have already got one, then you will also need to invest in some of these stereoscopic 3D glasses, as well as the other gear I've told you about to get the most out of your new 3D TV.

The i-glasses are basically head worn video and computer monitors. "They can have stereoscopic 3D capability, or be simple 2D displays. They can be used for everything from personal video monitors connected to a DVD player, VCR, video game console (literally anything with video outputs), to true virtual reality applications when connected to a PC running high end simulation software." The all-new i-glasses PC HR is plug and play compatible with virtually all computer systems including PC's, laptops and even some popular PDAs.

So the i-glasses above, don't require any special computer software, but to get the most out of your the glasses and have a total 3D vitual reality experience, you will need to run them through a PC that has 3D capability.

So while I have gone for nVidia's 3D Vision Kit, maybe the i-glasses would have been a better choice? At least there is no need to purchase a dedicated 3D Ready TV or monitor since you are actually wearing the monitor on your head.

If you're really into your gaming then purchasing a specialist 3D monitor is an extremely wise move. 3D gaming monitors have an incredibly fast refresh rate which allows for crisp, clear 3D action. The 120hz frame rate creates realistic 3D rendering and combined with 1680x1050 Super HD resolution you can't beat these monitors for an amazing 3D gaming experience. They are also relatively cheap compared to 3D Ready TV's.

You will need nVidia's GeForce 3D Vision Kit to get the most out of your 3D monitor.
