The simplest earache to treat, is earache caused by excess earwax. When I was a child my Mom used to treat a build up of earwax by heating a little vegetable oil in a teaspoon, (being careful not to make it so hot it burns!) and gently tip a little into my ear just before bedtime. She would then plug the ear with a small ball of cotton wool. Overnight, the warm oil would work to melt the earwax and it could all be found on the cotton wool in the morning.
