Home Earache Remedy for Adults, Babies and Children
80Home Treatments for Earache without Using Ear Wax Candles
As earache can be one of the most excruciating ailments that we or our children have to endure, having a home earache remedy in your cupboard is a wise move. Painful, sore, throbbing earache is more than a little distraction, it can be completely debilitating as you struggle to get to sleep or do anything that requires normal functioning. Watching our baby or child suffer with earache is even worse, as we often feel that there's nothing we can do except give them painkillers. Here you'll find some effective and safe earache remedies that you can use at home for yourself, your baby or your child to help heal earaches quickly.
Earache can be caused by a few different problems, but here are the three main causes of earache:
- A bacterial infection
- A viral infection
- A build up of earwax
Let's look at each type of earache and what home remedies you need in your store cupboard to treat them successfully.
Earache Caused By Bacterial Infection
While most earaches are treatable at home using homeopathic, herbal and home remedies; serious earaches, where a bacterial infection is involved and the ear is oozing yellow or green pus, will require a trip to the doctor and a prescription for antibiotics. Even if you do have this type of ear infection, there are steps you can take at home to treat it in conjunction with any medication you have been prescribed.
Homeopathic earache drops or tablets can help your ear infection heal more quickly, by working with your bodies' defences to promote self healing and a fast recovery. Have a look my suggestions from Amazon.com, the world's cheapest and most trusted retailer, and heal that earache fast.
Earache Caused By Viral Infection
Treating earache using a homeopathic home earache remedy, really comes into it's own when yours or your child's earache is caused by a virus, since there's nothing your doctor can do to treat a viral infection. Anitbiotics will not clear up a viral ear infection and you often have no choice but to rely on painkillers until your body has fought it off. In a viral ear infection there is no pus coming from the ear just an red, sore and inflamed eardrum. If you do have an otoscope at home you will be able to tell which kind of earache you, your baby or child is experiencing.
If you do find a viral ear infection you can choose to use a safe and reliable homeopathic remedy like one of those listed on the right. Homeopathic ear drops are best for babies and children (and adults who can't swallow pills), since they are delivered right to the location of the problem. All of the home earache remedies listed here have excellent reviews from those that use them frequently and my personal favorite are the Similasan Earache Relief drops. I always have some of these homeopathic ear drops in the cupboard at home to treat anyone of my family suffering from earache. Remove Earwax to Treat Earache
The simplest earache to treat, is earache caused by excess earwax. When I was a child my Mom used to treat a build up of earwax by heating a little vegetable oil in a teaspoon, (being careful not to make it so hot it burns!) and gently tip a little into my ear just before bedtime. She would then plug the ear with a small ball of cotton wool. Overnight, the warm oil would work to melt the earwax and it could all be found on the cotton wool in the morning. Then to ensure that the ear was completely free of wax, she would use cotton buds to gently clean the ear hole. This is a great home earache remedy when the earache is due to earwax.
Sweet Oil, which is simply a mild vegetable oil, can be bought in a bottle with a handy dropper to make the application of oil to the ear a lot easier. Like the home earache remedy above, the sweet oil also needs warming and is best done at night before bed. It can be used often to keep the ear lubricated and prevent the build up of wax.
Professional medical equipment to use at home can also be purchased for recurring problems with earwax build up and general ear problems. You might want to consider buying an earwax syringe, which will allow you to wash out earwax with warm water or oil and remove it safely. You might even want to consider buying a professional otoscope (opthamoscope) if ear problems are chronic and ongoing or you simply would like to have a close look inside your children's ears.
Using an otoscope will help you determine what the earache is being caused by because you will be able to see clearly if there is a lot of wax, whether the eardrum is red or whether any pus is oozing from the eardrum. The otoscopes below from amazon.com are extremely well priced so check them out - you never know when you're going to need one.

This article is very helpful because I have for years a problem ear and the doctor gives me drops but after a while it starts again. Thank you very much.
Great information susana. I like the fact that you recommended trying homeopathic medication when you have an earache (or any illness) caused by a virus. Well done and rated up.
Great Hub Susana. I think ear aces are much more common as many youger folk abuse their ears with loud music, ear phones etc. But when I was younger there were still abuses to the ear drums . just of differnt kinds of noise . and we did not frequently protect our ears.
Thank you
Ron

Great Blog, My Granddaughter is at our home frequently and she has suffered from several earaches and this hub will has very helpful. THANKS
Great hub Susana! I often suffer form earaches and my ears always feel/sound like they're full of fluid (have a hard time hearing). If I lay on my side the fluid sensation shifts and tickles like water trickling or bugs crawling in my ears. It drives me crazy! There is fluid on my eardrum all the time from my histamine problem. Do you think the eardrops would work for sensations and fluid like that? I would really like some relief for sleep.
Thanks Susana, I use homeopathic sinus sprays that work wonders on the swelling and pressure in my face. Helps with my ears too but not completely gone. I will look into the ear drops some more.

I have a little daughter who often gets earaches, and the doctor told me to regularly clean her ears for wax build up, so thank you for that great home remedy (I was only using ear buds, no oil!) A great hub as always!
