Answering the burning question of whether you are pregnant or not can be easy or difficult depending on how far long you are (if indeed you are pregnant) and also how well you know your own body. Many women can tell if they are pregnant within 2 or 3 weeks of conceiving, and some women know a lot sooner - within a few days. It really depends on your ability to pick up on the changes occurring within your body and how sensitive you are to them.
Of course, you'll be able to find out for sure once you have missed your first period by doing a pregnancy test. Don't be tempted to do a pregnancy test before this point though - taking a pregnancy test too early will give inaccurate results.
What Causes Pregnancy "Symptoms"?
If you know your body well you may notice some subtle or not so subtle changes in the first few weeks of pregnancy. These are all caused by the changes in your hormone levels.
The pregnancy hormones rushing around your body will progressively increase the further down the road of pregnancy you are and so will the strength of the potential symptoms. You can go from feeling a little nauseous to being frequently sick in a matter of weeks. Human Chorionic Gonadotrophin hormone - hCG for short, is the hormone that tells your body to increase progesterone levels and this is what makes your periods stop, as well as being responsible for most of the "symptoms" of pregnancy.
Over-the-counter pregnancy tests are testing for hCG in your urine and are very reliable because hCG levels are so much higher in pregnancy than when we are not pregnant - in fact they double every day.
Pregnancy - The Early Signs
Sometimes a confusing factor when trying to determine if you are pregnant, is that all of the symtpoms of pregnancy can be symptoms of other conditions. So detecting the very early signs of pregnancy without having done a test can be tricky, especially if it is your first pregnancy. Once you are on to pregnancy 2, 3 or 4 you will more than likely recognise the signs quite quickly.
There are several early signs that can tell you that you may be pregnant. The most obvious is missing your period or having light spotting instead of a proper period.
Pregnancy is the number one reason for missing your period.
At the point of missing your period you are probably 1-3 weeks pregnant unless there is something else that could be interfering with your menstrual cycle (see below).
It can be possible to know you are pregnant even before that first missed period. On a personal note, I knew I was pregnant within 2 weeks of conceiving on each of the three occasions I've been pregnant.
Pregnant? How to Tell - 13 Early Signs and Symptoms
1. Extreme Tiredness
If you're trying to determine whether the feeling of being tired is one of the early pregnancy symptoms you are experiencing, then be aware that the kind of tiredness you'll feel within the first 4 - 6 weeks of conception is probably unlike any kind of tiredness you've felt before. You will feel exhausted and will more than likely be falling asleep on the sofa and will be wanting early night's and afternoon naps for no apparent reason.
2. Feeling Sick
Feeling nauseous is often one the first signs that you may be pregnant. The way to tell whether this is nausea caused by pregnancy rather than a virus, is that the nausea tends to last all day and also tends to get increasingly worse over a period of weeks. In the early weeks you may just feel a bit sick, then later on it may progress to actually vomiting.
3. Metallic Taste in the Mouth
The experience of having a metallic taste in your mouth constantly is a pregnancy sign that I am familiar with. It's difficult to describe, but your mouth feels like you have been sucking a coin. It's a pregnancy symptom that is very common and is unmistakable (unless you have actually been sucking metal.....if so that's a very weird thing to do!)
4. Aversion to Certain Foods and/or Drinks
Do you suddenly dislike the taste of foods and drinks you used to love? Do they make you feel nauseous? If so, this is another common pregnancy symptom that many women experience. Common culprits are tea, coffee and alcohol.
5. Heightened Sense of Smell
Related to the point above (taste and smell are very closely linked), a heightened sense of smell is another common pregnancy symptom. Are you, quite suddenly, starting to feel nauseous by everyday smells such as soap, cooking or perfumes? This can be another early pregnancy sign to watch for.
6. Noticeable Blue Veins in the Breasts
One of the first things most women notice and causes us to suspect pregnancy is changes to our breasts. These changes can take many forms including prominent blue veins in the breast tissue. Some more of the common breast changes caused by pregnancy are listed below:
- Enlarged Nipples
- Darkened Nipples
- Sore Breasts
- Swollen Breasts
- Enlarged Breasts
7. Feeling Dizzy and Light-headed
Another extremely common sign of pregnancy is having bouts of dizziness and/or light headedness. If you've been experiencing these sensations, have had unprotected sex recently and are sure you don't have a virus, then this could well be an early sign of pregnancy.
8. Increased Urination
Need to pee more often than usual? Waking up in the night to urinate when you normally wouldn't? These are both hints that you might be pregnant.
9. Light Spotting (Implantation Bleeding)
This is one of least frequently experienced pregnancy symptoms, but it is something that you should take note of if you are wondering how soon you can tell if you are pregnant. Implantation bleeding is different to a normal period. It will usually last between one and three days and will be intermittent spotting, rather than the constant flow of menstruation. Most women who have had implantation bleeding also say that it is more brown in color, rather than red.
10. Feeling Different
How can we put our finger on a sense of "feeling different"? If you just feel different inside for no apparent reason it can be a sign of pregnancy. I have found it impossible to find any words that explain this feeling and I'm pretty certain that even if I could, my feeling different would be different from your feeling different. If you have a feeling you can't put your finger on, but you sense an internal change, it can be an early sign of pregnancy.
11. Feeling Emotional
Keep bursting into tears or getting cross and snappy with people around you for no apparent reason? Check to make sure it's not a full or new moon and that it's not your normal PMS - it could be a sign.
12. Missing your period
I mentioned this earlier but I'll say it again. Missing your period is the most obvious and clear sign that you are pregnant. If your period hasn't arrived on time then it's time to take a pregnancy test.
13. Quick Weight Gain
Have you noticed that you can't do up you trousers or they feel a little more snug than usual? Putting on 4-8 pounds within a short time frame (a week or two) is another common sign of pregnancy to watch out for.

Some of these pregnancy symptoms are hard to quantify especially something like "feeling different", but you may well feel different somehow even though you can't explain how you feel different.
In my first pregnancy the earliest signs for me were the enlarged nipples and breasts and breast tenderness as well as feeling dizzy, sick and extremely tired. And yes - I did feel different!
In my second pregnancy the most noticable early symptoms were a metalic taste in my mouth, an aversion to drinking tea and a heightened sense of smell. This last symptom got worse and worse throughout my pregnancy and it became difficult to manage all of the smells that made me either feel sick or actually be sick. Smells I couldn't handle were anything soapy such as bodywash and deoderant, purfume and aftershave and alcohol. There were a lot more but these were the main ones.

Pregnancy Testing
Because early pregnancy symptoms can be confused with other illnesses or conditions I would always recommend buying yourself a test. These are very accurate from the point that your period is due and will take the guesswork out of knowing if you are pregnant or not.
Pregnancy tests can be really expensive but you can shop around as the prices will vary greatly. I bought a pack of three tests from a pound store (99c store) and they worked just fine. All the tests work in the same way by testing the hCG levels in your urine. It's always advised that you test your first urination of the day. This is because the urine is stronger and you will get a quicker result. Testing the weaker urine that you produce during the day may not give you the real result - you may think you are not pregnant when in fact you are.
This happened to me. I took my urine sample to the pharmacist for testing and was told it was negative. Later on in the day I got a call from my doctor to tell me that after I had left, the test had shown positive! This is because I had provided was a weak sample and so the test had taken longer than normal to pick up the hCG in my urine.
If you find you have a positive result then it's time to book a doctors appointment. The doctor may decide to do another pregnancy test to confirm your result.

It goes without saying that if you have had unprotected sex at any time during your menstrual cycle you could well be pregnant, even if it was your first time and even if your partner "pulled out". Cadence - it is impossible to pinpoint the feeling! The closest I can get to it is an inner awareness that something has changed. For me it was a lighter feeling and a sense of something new, but more than that. It is pretty impossible to describe and the feeling may be different for each one of us.

I woke up this morning feeling VERY nauseous and I have that metallic taste in my mouth as you had mentioned above. I have had 2 boys already but I didn't get sick until I was 6 to 8 weeks. I had my cycle last month and I'm due to start again next week which will be the end of Jan. 2010. I feel like its too early to tell so I don't know if I should buy a test or not. Should I??? Is it too early to tell?? All I ate today was saltine crackers. I always drink coffee in the mornings but this morning I just couldn't because I felt so sick to my stomach. Its almost 8p.m. now and I am still sick to my stomach.
Hi Kesha - all the signs are there, but you won't be able to know for certain until you do a test. Like you say it's too soon to do one, as a test won't give reliable results until the first day that your period is due. So I'd say get a test to use next week. If it's something else like a virus the symptoms should be gone by then - if not then I think it's highly likely you are pregnant.
Something I learnt recently is that nausea and vomiting tend to be worse when pregnant with girls. My understanding is that this is because, girls will also have the same hormones in their bodies so there is doubling up effect, as opposed to boys who have mainly testosterone. I don't know how reliable this information is, since I know people who were very sick with boys.

Ok so my period is 6 days late and im the kind of woman who is very regular. I have taken a test but it was negative. Is it possible that i could be pregnant and im just not pregnant enough for the test to pick up?
Hi Rebecca - A test can sometimes show negative because either: it's a dud, you didn't test your very first pee in the morning, or your hCg levels were not yet high enough to pick up. If you do another test, rather than pee directly onto the stick or device, catch your pee (1st one of the day) in a sterile cup or pot (just zap it in the microwave for a minute and put it in a clean plastic bag), and then put the device inside it and leave it there for about 15 minutes. If you are pregnant this method will show a positive result. Good luck!
Well I am on birth control and I have one week left of the regular pill. (then one week of the white pill that I have a period while taking, sugar pill) Anyway, it is too early to take a test, I have been nauseous for the past week, as well as had a headache I can't get rid of (not unbareable just annoying) I am moody, and SOOOO tired all the time. This might be an over share but I am normally pretty regular going to the bathroom for a movement and those have been far and in between! I am concerned that I might be pregnant is there any other way I can know for sure since I can't yet take a test!
Oh did I mention that smells are making feel worse. I put on 1 squirt of perfume and it gagged me all day and no one else could even smell it! UGH!
Hi Nicki - you've got a lot of the symptoms of early pregnancy, so it's likely, but not certain yet. Did you miss any pills lately or take antibiotics?
There's no way to know for sure if you're pregnant so early on - you'll just have to wait to do a test.

HI Susana! Its been three years since I've had a baby. I've been of the depo shot for 11 months and my husband and I have been trying since he got back from over seas. I finally got a period Jan 10th and it lasted five days. We started trying on Jan 28th. But for some reason I got a lighter period Feb 1st. and we have had sex twice during this time. Could I be or get pregnant? I am praying that I am or at least close to being. He's active in the Army and we both want this b4 he turns 33 n Nov. HELP ME ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My last shot was April of 09.I its so weird how I ovulate being that I've always ovulated either the day after my cycle or the last day of my cycle. I saw the slippery signs of ovulation last night and we are trying our best to use the "open window". Thanx for ur time and I will keep u posted.
Great information for those who require it. For me, I knew that I was pregnant the second the egg was fertilized for each of my pregnancies. As for nausea, it was the same for both girl and boys and lasted throughout the pregnancies until three months after delivery. lol They do say that pregnancy has four trimesters, not three.

Hi Susana, I've been trying to get pregnant now for a couple of months. My partner and I have a sperm donor that we have been using. I had a very light period from January 28th-31st. So we tried again this month. I've got so many signs and after the first day of trying this month I felt an overabundance of changes and nobody believed me that I can just tell something is changing within me. I'm suppose to start on the 25th, so I have yet to take a pregnancy test. But I swear I know I'm pregnant, I'm not sure if I'm possibly 6 weeks pregnant or only 2 weeks pregnant, but I've put on about 5 lbs in the last month (haven't changed anything in my appetite or activities, I've been napping in the afternoons after work. And this past week I have had bad acid reflex, Nausea after eating, and lightheaded and dizziness. My mom said she knew a couple days after conception that she was pregnant. Do you think I could be and if so could I possibly be 6 weeks even though I had a light period in January?
Hi Katty - yes it's very possible to have two periods in one month - if you have a short cycle it will happen frequently. An average menstrual cycle is 28 days (day 1 is the day your period starts - day 28 is the day before you start your period), but many women have much shorter cycles e.g. 20 days.
Whether you are pregnant or not I can't say. Needle type feelings in the stomach, has always been wind or a stomach upset for me, but we are all different. Take care :)

I have tried so many differnt types of the pill & they all leave me feeling so sick & having constant headaches aswell as snapping at my poor boyfriend! the current one im on i just stopped taking over 2 mounths ago...Anyways...im about 5/6 days late, im really compared to normal tired & my boobs hurt, im quite regular (give or take a few days) but i keep gettin sharp short pains in my lower stmoache that don't last very long..is there any chance that i could be?? or am i over thinking & just late? So going on what you've said, have you been unprotected for two months and continuing to have sex? If you have, then yes, there is a very high likelihood that you could be pregnant. ok so for about a week now I've been spotting. I've also been cramping like if my period wants to start, but when I go to the bathroom there is nothing. I also have tender breast but I get that most the time the only thing that's differ this time is that I'm cramping and I think it's been 2 weeks since the last time. My period is due 2morrow. My boobs have been extremely sore. They feel like its on fire. I'm having some dizzy spells everytime I turn my head. I feel sick 2 my stomach when I eat foods I normally eat, but never throw up. I had 2 neg test. When I squeeze both my nipples I have some clear fluids come out. When I wiped it off with issue its clear yellow. I usually am not a big coffee drinker, but for the past few days that's what I been craving, like 4 cups a day. My temperature has been 99.9 for the last 8 days. I take the temp every morning b4 I get out of bed. I also take it at night 2. Its the same temp. I been extremely tired. I also had light pink discharge around 5am this morning. Now nothing. Its 9:43 am right now . A been having some cramps every now and then for the past 7 days or more. Hi Lacey, it's really hard to seperate the symptoms you are experiencing. It does seem like you have some kind of virus or infection (maybe flu?), so I think the best thing to do is get this checked out with a doctor. Pregnancy tests aren't reliable at all if done before your period is due - wait a few days and then do another if you're period hasn't started (though the light pink discharge may well be the start of your period.) Thanks susana s. I don't see many people follow up 2 let us know if they pregnant or if they period came. So I will. My period came and I'm cramping like hell. I don't understand cause I had sex every day except the 10th of feb, 2010. I ovulated on valentines day, and believe me, I got my grove on. I wonder if I'm getting 2 old. I'm 27. Are my eggs decreasing or something? I have been tryying for 4 months. Y can't I get pregnant. And y do I have nipple fluids when I squeeze them?
You're welcome Lacey and it's nice that you took the time to come back to update me :) I wouldn't worry about being too old at 27! You have plenty of time and plenty of eggs. If you were previously on a hormone based contraception it can take a good 6 months for your body to get back into it's normal hormonal rythym and we don't always release an egg even in a normal cycle. I'm sure you will get pregnant soon, especially is you carry on as you have been ;)
Clear fluid coming from your nipple is usually nothing to worry about and can be caused by hormonal changes, but you should still get it checked by a doctor just in case. Take care x

Hi Lacey - sorry to hear that about your boyfriend. I'm not a fertility specialist, so I can't give you any reliable advice regarding improving your boyfriends sperm. I've heard that taking a zinc supplement can help, so he might want to try that. Apart from that I don't know what to say if he doesn't want to go see a doctor. Hi Nicole - pregnancy tests are 99.9% accurate if done after your period is due. In your case I think you are going to have to wait a while before taking one, because if you did fall pregnant 4 days ago there would not yet be enough hCG in your urine to test. You'd need to wait until your next period was due and do one then if your period still hasn't arrived. The likelihood is that the sore breasts you are experiencing are a pre-period symptom, since 4 days is very early to get those kind of pregnancy symptoms. Let me know how it turns out. Take care x

Hi Susana tell me more about this pregnancy stuff for i have been trying for quite some time now and had no luck.I had an h s g done an the 22 of February had sex three day after which was the 25 then an the 7 and the 8 day of march.Then my period was due today but it still hasn't show up as yet.As for the systoms slite cramping now and again had some Milo with milk the morning and i was so sick wanted to throw up but only a little came what do you think am still keeping my fingers cross.Don't want to bill my hopes up too early.

Hi Mary - any sign of your period yet? If you are trying to get pregnant you might want to consider having sex more often to increase your chances. I just read about HSG because I didn't know what it was - it says that the procedure can clear any blockages in the fallopian tubes and sometimes women get pregnant after this, so of course it's a possibility for you. Hi Mary - have you thought about doing a pregnancy test? Since your period is overdue it will be reliable now - just make sure you test your first pee of the day.
To answer your ovulation question - you *generally* ovulate in the middle of your cycle. Day 1 is the first day of your period, so in a 21 day cycle you should be ovulating around day 10/11. Good luck and I hope you are pregnant!

Hey Susan, So me and my boyfriend had sex one night and the next day i got my period like i was supposed to. Hi Mel - don't worry about the name - I've been called all sorts, lol. Your symptoms could be early pregnancy symptoms or they might be a virus or some other medical problem. If you had a normal period (not light or spotty) then it's unlikely that you're pregnant, but there is a small possibility. Unfortunately, the only way you are going to know for sure is to wait for your next period and see if it comes. If it's not on time then you'll need to do another pregnancy test. In the meantime, if you are pregnant the nausea symptoms will more than likely get worse as will the tiredness. Good luck!
Well. I had my period for five days, and didnt take my sugar pills. Than when i started back on my white pills i missed two of them. The second day that i missed the pills i had sex with my boyfriend and he came inside me, but it was the second time that he came that day. I just want to know what are the chances of me being pregnant? And if a guy cums a few times before he actually cums inside you are the chances lower of getting pregnant? How early will i be able to tell if im pregnant, cuz it has been four days.
Hi basketball - 4 days is too early to tell if you are pregnant or not, so unfortunately you are going to have to wait. You could even fall pregnant after today because sperm can live for up to 7 days. I would say don't even think about whether sperm is of a lower quality if released several times in one day because you can still get pregnant. Think more about making sure you take your pills every day and being more careful. Because you missed two days, you will not be protected for the whole of the coming month and so, if you are not pregnant already, you will need to use another form of contraception on top of the pill such as condoms.

Well today i woke up and went to the bathroom and i have a very light period, and im not suppossed to get my period for another week and a half, and im always on time it never changes, so could that be a sign of early pregnancy?

hey susana, i have been feeling really sick lately, and my boyfriend said my boobs were bigger, and my vjj area has been swollen since the last time we had sex, which was sunday. my nipples hurt, and my vision is really weird. my period is due in a week, but for two weeks now i have been bery constipated, and not even chocolate helps. i have been peeing alot even though i dont drink alot. last night i ate chinesse and i disliker chinese, and even when i eat and i get full and hour later im super hungry again. and smells really effect me. my deodrant does. and lately i have been having those blue veins in my breasts. What do you think???
and i forgot to mention i have had a cramping feeling but it feels more like a pinch, and it doesnt last very long.
Hi basketball - it could be, but what's more likely is that your hormone levels are out of kilter from not taking the pill for a few days. Have you taken your pill the last 4 days?
Hi tot, it certainly sounds like you have a lot of pregnancy symptoms. I'm assuming your last period was about 3 weeks ago? Was it normal? The only thing you can do right now is wait and see if your period arrives in a week's time. If not give it a few days and then do a test. Let me know how it turns out :)

Hi basketball - there's not really an answer to your question because everyone is different. Many women will start experiencing some recognisable pregnancy symptoms just before, or around the time, that their period is due.
It's almost impossible to get a definitive answer before your period is due. If it doesn't arrive then that's going to be the best indicator that you're pregnant. Since you're taking the pill you may still have a period and be pregnant. So in this case wait a few days after you start bleeding and then do a pregnancy test. Good luck!

Hi basketball - you're welcome :) Pregnancy tests aren't accurate until *after* your period is due, so you're right you'll need to wait a few weeks. If you do it too early you may get a false negative. This is because it takes a little while for the hCG (pregnancy hormone) levels to build up. Let me know how it goes. Take care x
Susan I've been pregnant before but I didnt find out until I was 5-6 weeks pregnant the first time. Right now I think I'm pregnant because I'm peeing a lot more, my period was supposed to start last Wednesday (and it's now Tuesday), I've been having a few cramps but no traces of blood, but the pregnancy test that I took said negative. I'm on birth control so my period is very very regular. I did take a plan B pill last week though and I didn't know that that could cause you to miss a period? How does that work? I thought it made you have a period faster? Now I'm just confused and might not be pregnant?

Hi kat - no wonder you are confused, there are a lot of different things to take into consideration there! I'm wondering whether you did the pregnancy test a little early? I would suggest doing another one in a week's time and making sure you test your very first pee of the day.
The reliability of a pregnancy test will not be affected by the pill or plan B because they are estrogen/progesterone based and the pregnancy test detects another hormone hCG, though you can get a false negative if you do the test too early. Hi Susana...you get alot of comments...and you're so great about replying that I thought I'd go ahead and post one too...I take the pill...but not for sex...because I have PCOS and I need it to regulate my hormones for me...or I don't have a regular period...well...due to moving and starting college and lack of money...i finished the pill in Jan sometime...and only just restarted this week...needless to say, no period...lol...but...i did have sex....about 2 weeks ago at the most...we used protection but it broke...I've been really emotional this last week...which sucks cuz it was spring break lol...pretty much my question for you would be when should I take a test just to make sure...I highly doubt i'm preggers...but there's always that possibility...I don't know when my period should be...since i was off for about 5weeks...and my period isn't that reliable even when i'm on the pill...i was thinking of waiting 2-3 weeks and if no period then to try...would you recommend any longer than that? thanks alot....

Hi Jennifer - I didn't get any back pain until I was at least 6/7 months pregnant.
Please help! I went to the doctor the other day after 5 positive tests (from 17th March to 22nd). I was having a light bleed (when I say bleed it ranges from pink to lightish red to brown discharge, not heavy and no clots) She sent me to the Pregnancy Support Centre who took blood. They told me my HCG level was only 5.8. They also said I'd have been 6 weeks but as my HCG was low I had miscarried. The thing is they are judging this from a period I had on 12th Feb when I had another bleed on 22nd which was more of a period than 12th so really I think I was only a few weeks rather than 6. I have done more tests and they still come out positive. Can anyone shed any light? Am I only 2 weeks pregnant or did I miscarry at 6 weeks? For 2 weeks pregnant the HCG level is anything from 5 to 50. So confused! Hugs to all you lovely ladies. xx

I have known him since middle school so we are ready for a baby. A couple of days after the wedding is when I ovulated and that is when we...... well you know. I know it is too soon and it could possibly be period symptoms because my breasts are swollen and super sore they hurt to touch. My nipples are also enlarged. Hi Lorjohn - Unfortunately, I do think that the likelihood is that you are miscarrying. There are only 10 days difference between the 12th and 22nd, so your hCG levels would be incredibly low for 4-5 weeks pregnant. Have you been back for further blood tests to see if the hCG is rising or not? Did they give you a scan? I ask because this is what was done to me.
Your situation reminds me a lot of when I had a blighted ovum (no genetic material in the egg) and miscarried.
It's the egg sac that creates the hormone hCG, so if this has not come away and is still functioning then pregnancy tests will show positive even though there is no real pregnancy to speak of.

I've been on the pill for almost 10 years and just recently stopped taking it to try and become pregnant. My first menstral cycle began on Feb 21st and lasted its usual 6 days (though it was much heavier than it used to be when I was taking the pill). Now I am on day 38 without another period. Is it possible to skip a period after I've already had one or is there a higher possiblity I am pregnant? I took a test 5 days ago but it was negative. I have been pregnant before and it happened immediately after going off the pill (i.e. about 6-10 days later). The last test I took was later in the day. If I take another tomorrow morning, will it show a true result?

Hello I am 17 yrs old An I meet this guy about a month ago an we hav had unprotected sex like every other day. Hi Jules, I would recommend taking another pregnancy test first thing in the morning as the hCG levels will be the highest then if you are pregnant. If it's negative again, try another test in a couple of weeks (assuming that your period still hasn't arrived).
It is difficult to know what's really going on since it can take a good 6 months or so for your menstrual cycle to sort itself out after taking the pill for so long and it's impossible to predict when you may have ovulated. Good luck!
Hi Help - The first thing is to make sure you get yourself some condoms and use them. If this guy is worth it he won't mind using them. Even though you have not had a period for 8 months you are taking very big risks here. Give it a few weeks and then do a pregnancy test - take it first thing in the morning, like I've said to the other ladies. Hi Elizabeth - excessive hunger could be an early sign of pregnancy but it's impossible to say if pregnancy is the reason for your hunger as there could be a 100 other reasons. Watch for any other early pregnancy symptoms alongside the hunger. Take care x

According to the dates by your comments here, it was 3 weeks ago when you first contacted me, plus around 9 days since the first day of your last period. If that's correct you should be due for a period now, in which case you should get a reliable result if you do a test now (as long as you test your very first pee of the day). Good luck!

I have been reading over the comments on here & have I gathered it right that a pregnancy test will not be able to work until you have missed your first period?
Hi Elizabeth - Yes that's right. Pregnancy tests aren't reliable until at least 14 days after conception, so this is usually around the date that your period is due. For a totally reliable result it's usually better to wait a week or two longer (once the period is actually missed), but it can be hard to wait when you want to know now!

Hi Elizabeth - you're welcome :) Being very sensitive to smells can be a strong indicator of pregnancy. It was one of the earliest symptoms I experienced in my second pregnancy. It will be interesting to see if you have any other changes/symptoms over the next few weeks!
I'm 43 and my last menstration was january 19. I had gone for check up but my test was negative. But i'm having symptom for pregnancy. My youngest daughter is 10yrs old. Hi lana - I would definitely recommend you take another pregnancy test to confirm whether you are pregnant or not. Now that we're in April there's no chance of getting a false negative, since you'd be 15/16 weeks pregnant. If the result is negative again, then there's obviously something else going on. It may be the start of your menopause or something else. Either way I'd suggest going back to see your doctor. Best wishes :)

Morning sickness can come on very early. It depends how sensitive you are to the hCG hormone. Everyone is different - some never have any kind of sickness or nausea and unfortunate ones like me are sick for 6 months or more, lol! I wouldn't wish that on anyone.
If your nausea is a pregnancy symptom it will gradually get worse over the next few weeks, but by then we should have a result either way!

hCG = Human chorionic gonadotrophin hormone - hCG for short, is produced by the egg sac and is the hormone that tells your body to increase progesterone levels - this is what makes your periods stop, as well as being responsible for most of the "symptoms" of pregnancy. Over-the-counter pregnancy tests are testing for hCG in your urine.
The pain I have been having all day is more like cramps. But even if I wasn't preg & going to start I shouldn't be starting for at least another week so I shouldn't be cramping... what do you think?

Absolutely Raylene - it's possible to get pregnant at any time during your cycle. The human body is very clever and will do what it can to procreate. So that might mean releasing the ovum earlier or later to increase the chances of conception. Contrary to popular belief there is no truly *safe period* to have sex to avoid pregnancy.

Hi Raylene - sounds like you are experiencing some potential pregnancy symptoms there. When was your last period and when is your next one due?
Also, are you just bloated or have you actually put on weight? Bloating could be a sign, but one strong sign of pregnancy is putting on a chunk of weight (4+ pounds) in a very short space of time. I've had 3 pregnancies and in each one I put on 1/2 a stone within 2 weeks of conceiving.
To Raylene and Elizabeth - have a good look at your breasts. Do they feel heavier than normal? Are there any changes to the size or color of your nipples? Have any blue veins appreared that were not there before? Breast changes are a very strong indicator if pregnancy.

my last period was around the end of march beginning of april so it should be around the same time coming up here cause my periods are regular.. and i feel like i have put on about 4 or 5 pounds in the last week. My breasts are a little tender but not to bad right now but i havent really noticed any blue veins but then again i dont really pay much attention to my breasts. dont really look at them much cause i dont like the scars from my breast reduction!
Yes thats why I thought I thought I was gaining weight way too fast because of how fat my belly has gotten & its not the normal kind of fat I can suck in its like the fat bloating i get when I'm on my period.. But as for my boobs I had breast reduction 3 weeks ago friday so my boobs are very unnormal so I couldn't really tell you a difference in them because they are still very sore from the surgery & everything was disconnected from my nipples so they are unfunctional when it comes to regular boobs.

yeah i was planning on waiting till around the time i got my period before i took a pregnancy test. but i am also getting dizzy or lightheaded and heart burn and i have only ever had heart burn once in my life. i have noticed too that i seem to be goin to the bathroom more frequently as well.

ok my question is this... I have been feeling pregnant for the last 2 weeks. I have taken over 12 test and they all have come back positive,that was before I even missed my period. I just felt pregnant. I missed my period on the 14th two days ago I took two other test in the last couple of days. They came back positive as well.. for the last three weeks I've had all the normal symptoms of early stage pregnancy.. I woke up yesterday morning,and I felt nothing I took another test and it came back positive .. I am very worried. I do have a appointment on the 26th with a OBgyn.I don't know if this should a question that I should ask.. but my breast have been hurting even to the point of touch.As of yesterday they now just burn,is this normal?

Hi Sherrie - sounds like you're pregnant! What was your last period like - was it lighter than normal? You may be further along than you first thought. Breast soreness and tenderness is very normal and shouldn't be anything to worry about, but when all the pregnancy symptoms stop this can be a worry and a sign that the pregnancy is not moving along normally. Talk it through with your OBGYN and they will probably do a blood test and possibly an internal examination to find out how far along you are and to ensure things are progressing as they should be. Hi Cheryl - Any pregnancy tests you've done so far will not be at all accurate as you really need to wait until you've missed your period. The very earliest you can take a test for a reliable result is the day that your period is due.
Breast soreness and constipation can be early signs of pregnancy, but you really won't know if you are pregnant until you take a test at the correct time. Best wishes x

Hi Ash, if your boyfriend used a condom and it didn't rip or split, then you should be fine. What you're describing regarding the pain sounds like it could be vaginismus. Hi, I'm new to this. I had my last depo injection in October 2009 and I had been on it for 3 years with no periods. I still haven't had any periods since coming off it. Recently been havin sex every other day and doing pregnancy test every week, did one 2days ago and negative. Today iv had a sleep in the evenin n my my partner had made a sunday roast, as I sat down I felt very nauseous and could hardly eat any of it as i felt really put off it! I usually love my food so this is not normal. Then I just burst out crying and I don't honestly no why I cried! I'm now eating chocolate cheese cake as I'm writing this so I no it's not me not hungry. The annoying part to trying for a baby is that I don't know when I'm ovulating, don't no when a test will be correct since I don't have periods to know if I'm late or not! I've had 2 reflexology sessions to try help bring my cycle back but no luck! Any ideas as I'm getting a little disheartened by this! X
Hi Emma - I've done a little research on fertility after using Depo and from what I've read the *average* amount of time it takes to return to normal fertility is 6-10 months and it often takes up to 15 months to become pregnant. If you are not having periods at the moment then you are probably not ovulating yet. It sounds like it's just going to take more time for your body to get back to normal. There are several things you can do to clear the depo out of your system faster such as sauna and a detox diet. Hope that helps :)

If it was a lot lighter than usual and intermittent rather than a steady flow, then that could be a sign of pregnancy. My new husband and I just started trying for a baby. I am usually pretty regular every 28 days, but have been a month late once and a few days here and there once in a blue moon. The funny thing is my husband & I had unprotected sex on April 18th and I was due for a period on April 22. It is now April 29th and still nothing. I feel very bloated as well as constipated. I have clear fluid comming out of me and only once was this fluid a little dark on my first missed day. I am scard to take a test, because I want this so bad already and am sweating it out each time I use the bathroom. Can I even be pregnet if we tried so late in the month? Do I test now or wait to miss another period? Maybe I just willed my period away with sheer HOPE!
Hey Susana! So Remember when I told you that last month was a failed try to get preggo? Well this time it wasn't a failed attempt. I'm pregnant! My period was suppose to start yesterday and I actually had dark brown spotting so I was like oh man my period is coming maybe next month. But I had so many signs so I was like maybe it is just in my head. Well it wasn't. I am pregnant! And we are so excited! I have my first doctors appointment on May 2nd. So I do have some questions for you. When I was 18 I did have a miscarriage and am really worried because I don't want to have one again. Is there anything different I can do to prevent that? Also i have been having some cramping in my stomach. Is that normal? It feels like period cramps but I worry because it reminds me of my miscarriage and I don't want that to happen again.

Ok I am almost done with my 7th late day and it's hard to think of anything else. I am still getting that discharge no blood but sometimes there is alot of discharge. It doesn't smell or anything. It mostly is watery slippery like when you ovulate but sometimes it's like other times throughout the month. I don't know if it's a good sighn or bad sighn. Still feeling bloated and I have an on and off cramp that starts at my belly button. Very raley do I get cramps when it's my time of the month. Don't know if I'm just being silly about this all or if it might really be true? In the mean time I am taking good care of myself I just don't want to get to happy for no reason. Sitting here with my fingers crossed!
Okay so it happened of course one night. now two weeks later im very suspicious if i am pregnant or not. my period was supposed to start several days after and its just finally started, but it wasnt heavy like it always is. It was for a few hours then, now its just very light. Yesterday i got very nauesous. ill admit i only drank 3 or 4 beers the night before, and i never throw up, i spaced my drinks as well. I stayed in bed and threw up again several hours later. Today i was feeling fine then i noticed my sense of smell was stronger i was having moments of nausea but very hungry and then i started getting light headed. Ive had slight headaches for the past couple days on and off. I did take a pregnancy test this morning2 in fact and they both came out negative. Is it a possiblity that i could still be pregnant but it too early to tell?
Hello there! me and my boyfriend had sex about 6 days ago and I havebeen feeling siCk for the past 3 or 4. Also I have begun to feel as if I am always thirsty and I even turned down some hamburgers the other night! My fav food! I am heading in to the week of my period so I have not missed my period yet. But I would like to kno is there anyway I could be pregnet just from thoes signs? Also my breasts have been sore but this happens before every period.

I am on my 8th late day now and paranoid! My husband firmly believes that we should wait to next month to take the test. Although I am very confused about how I should feel I know he is right the last thing I need is to get my hopes up. I started taking over the counter Folic Asid pills that our clinic suggested since they heard our situation. I cut out caffeen + alchole & am being extra careful anyway. I am no longer having as much problems being constipated, because I started eatting Raisen Brand, thought that might help others out there. The discahrge which is almost always milky these days keeps comming on strong, sorry to be gross. My breasts only tingle a bit. I feel slightly nausous, but never throwup. Still cramping slightly, and have a dull acke in my lower back. I am tired more offten exept at bedtime then I just can't get to sleep. At night time I have annoying heartburn. I have put on 3 pounds recently, but I know these things could all be caused by other things. I am sorry to be a pain, but it comforts me to know here are other people out there with the same things going on in their lives. At this sight we are all playing the bathroom game so to speak. Some of us are praying that the stick turns blue & others are praying it doesn't! I really hope all those women out there like me who despretly want a baby and who are also crossing there fingers every time they use the bathroom or feel the slightest bit different all get there babies :) And for all the women and young girls who maybe made an error in judgement& maybe are sweating out their future get the negtive answer they are hoping for. I am starting to spot now at the end of my 8th day.Guess this means no baby right? I'll let you know what happens. Don't think I ever wanted anything this bad in all my life. I say more but I can't stop crying,thank you for litening anyway :(
My husband dried away my tears, thank God for him. I just wanted to say the spotting was very light mixed with that darn discharge. It has stopped for now anyway. Going to wait it out until tommorow if it is my cycle I'll no soon enough. I keep readding all your older commets trying to figure out about others who may have been in similar situations, Alot of women dying to know long before their cycle is do I wonder how many wait as long as me to test, guess I'm just a big chicken, LOl. Hi Gypsey and I'm sorry it's taken me a few days to get back to you. You should know by now if the spotting has turned into a full period. If it carries on as intermittent spotting it could well be implantation bleeding which sometimes occurs when the fertilized egg implants in the womb. If you don't get a full period then wait another week and then take a pregnancy test. Good luck to you and many thanks for your very kind comments x
Hey Jennifer - that's wonderful news! Congratulations! It's natural to worry whether things are going right when we've had a miscarriage before, but really it's up to nature now. There's nothing you can do to ensure a miscarriage doesn't happen except of course not taking any drugs, alcohol etc.
There are a lot of changes going on in your body right now, so you will get a whole lot of sensations in your tummy area - it's all normal. It's amazing to think what's happening in there!

Hi Joann - you're right on the cusp of when a pregnancy test will be accurate or not. It needs to be taken a minimum of 14 days after conception, so if you had unprotected sex 2 weeks ago and factoring in that it can often take 2 or 3 days more for conception to occur then the test could well be showing a false negative.
If your period does not come on normally, then give it a good 4+ days before doing another test and follow the instructions I've given previously about making sure you do the test right. Good luck!
Hi Rebecca - it's so early that it's really impossible to say whether you could be pregnant yet. Nausea doesn't usually start so early on, but we are all different so you never know. If the feeling of nausea increases day by day then it may be an early sign of pregnancy. Being emotional can also be a sign but you'll just need to wait and see if your period arrives - that will be the clearest sign of whether you are pregnant or not. Best wishes x
Hi Emma - I fully understand your confusion! Maybe the best option for you at the moment is to get some ovulation test strips to determine whether you are actually ovulating yet or not. Do one every day to test for the hormone LH (luteinizing hormone). When the test detects it, that means you're ovulating and it's a good time to try and conceive. This may be a better method for you to work out what is going on right now, rather than keep taking pregnancy tests. You can get 50 ovulation tests for about $11 at amazon which is the cheapest you'll find them anywhere:

How long does that spotting usually last, if that is whats happening to me? And can I have really gotten preganent so late in my cycle, is it possible?
Hi Susana... so here goes, i had the implanon fitted on 4th feb as i thought it would be 1 thing less to worry about as i already hav 2 children. Prior to the implanon i was taking femulen the mini pill as i can only POP's. My periods have been extremely regular bang on a 28 day cycle after having my daughter in 2006. However since having the implanon I started bleeding 2 days later and have continued bleeding extremly heavily since up until deciding to have the implanon removed on 22nd April, the bleeding stopped on the 24th April like someone had urned a tap off! I had sex 4 days prior to having the implanon removed and have later found out that sexual intercourse should be avoided for 14 prior to having the implanon removed!! Is this the case? Also since then my GP advised me to take 6months off contraception to let my body adjust, but i'm allergic to the latex in condoms and we have been using the "pull out" method! Last night my husband didn't pull out, and for some reason I am just totally convinced I am pregnant! today I had the same feelin I had with my daughter at only a week or 2 pregnant, fainting sensation from my feet upto my head, and extremely dizzy, also the fatigue is unbelievable! I am taking iron tablets and this started to improve but i am soooo tired all the time! What do you think???? Thanks, AJ

Hi Gypsey - Spotting caused by implantation usually lasts a day or two or three and yes, it is possible to get pregnant late in your cycle. The ovum can actually wait for chemical signals from the sperm to tell it when to be released in order to maximize the chance of conception. It's pretty clever stuff!
Hi AJ - I know very little about implanon, so I can't help you there I'm afraid. Many women say they know exactly when they have conceived and feel different almost immediately (I'm one of them!), so it's certainly not impossible that you feel that you know you are pregnant. I'd give it at least 3 weeks before taking a pregnancy test for a definitive answer as to whether your feeling is correct or not. As you've been pregnant before, you'll no doubt notice any early pregnancy symptoms in the coming weeks if you are pregnant. Best wishes x

Thanks Susana for getting back to me, I know what you mean! With my 2nd pregnancy I knew withing a few days, family thought I was diabetic with the symptoms but i knew i was pregnant! I did a test on day 7 which was negative, however day 14 showed a positive test and true t all dates i delivered by section at exactly 39 weeks 7 days before my due date, i couldn't believe how acurate it was!!! as for today my husband had a glass of red wine, I usually join him and enjoy it, but the thought made me feel so queezy!!! Somethings not right if i'm not pregnant. But thanks again... i'll keep you posted! x

Hi Susana, I am now on my 11th late day. The light spotting did go away after 3 days like you said. My husband still wants to wait another 2 weeks to test. He says to try and forget about it untill then, easier said then done LOL! I have noticed that I am very aware of my stomach and lower back. My stomach feels like it's pulling around my belly button. It's a weird feeling like I did alot of situps. My lower back ackes all the time. I am confused almost everyone I hear about has sore breasts and our nausous. Do other people get the sytomes I just discribed?
Hi Gypsey, A pregnancy test won't be reliable until a minimum of 14 days after conception, so going by the dates you've given you could take a test now (I make it 14 days exactly). Lots of women say that they experience some cramping and odd feelings in the lower back and stomach in the first few weeks so you're not alone. Like I said previously, there's a lot of changes going on in there if you are pregnant! Let me know how it turns out :)

I have been off of birth control for about 4 months. Because we are newly weds we decided to let God take control but have still been some what hesitant. My husband and I have been having sex but still pulls out before he finishes. The past couple of times he said that he probably should have pulled out earlier. This is the week I should be getting my period, but for once I feel no signs of getting it. I have been really tired- I normally love to go to the gym and get a good workout but now I have no desire to, I've had a headache for almost 6 days now, certain smells make me gag, and I'm EXTREMELY moody. Hello um I need some help big help! Hi Susan S. I had unprotected sex last month with my fiance using the 'pull out' system and I haven't gotten my period yet, not spotting or anything but I almost always start somewhere from the 25th to a couple days later and todays the 4th. I don't have any major signs, yeah I've been hungrier, but no sensitivity to smells, I don't feel that different but at the same time I feel convinced that I am pregnant. Do you just reccomend I take a test to know for sure? My fiance says to just wait out this week and if I haven't started by then we'll test. I do want to add that I have been more moody though, I blamed it originally on the fact that I was going to be starting my period soon but since it has yet to come maybe it's due to something else?

So amazing. Everything is going well and I go to the doctors June 2nd. They said they see patients at 8-10 weeks. I have been taking prenatal pills and actually been doing wonderful. This site has helped me so much and I really thank you for answering back so fast. Also, I'm one of those people who is always cold regardless of the weather but lately I've gotten hot flashes, is that a symptom of being pregnant? I'm not due to have my period for another week but this is not how I normally feel before I start. Do you think I could be pregnant?
Hi Amy :) Of course being pregnant is a possibility, though normally the nausea associated with pregnancy will carry on and not usually be confined to a day or two. (That sounds more like some kind of tummy bug or a reaction to something bad that you have eaten.) It must be awful for you, wondering every month if you might be pregnant - I sincerely hope you are as you want it so much! Fingers crossed your period DOES NOT arrive!
Hi Becky - You've got a few potential early pregnancy symptoms there - the extreme tiredness, nausea and heightened sense of smell. Sounds like a high possibility, but of course the best way to know for sure is to see if your period arrives and if it doesn't come when expected take a pregnancy test. Good luck!
Hi Cheyanne - Putting on a lump of weight quickly is often an early pregnancy sign, the stomach cramp you experienced is less likely to be so. Your period should be due soon, so hopefully it won't show up :)
Hi Elizabeth - The only advice I can give is to take another pregnancy test and see how it turns out. Our periods can often change with no obvious reason, but to be certain a pregnancy test should be reliable now. Best wishes x
Hi Joy - As i'm sure you know the pull out method is not a reliable method of birth control! It's very risky. If your period still hasn't arrived then there's a very high likelihood that you're pregnant. Since your period is missed then a test will be reliable now. Good luck!

Hi Abbey - I've not heard of hot flashes being an early sign of pregnancy, but it could well be because of the hormonal changes taking place - we all react differently to our hormones. The nausea and bloating are clearer signs, and of course there is always a chance of pregnancy if we are trying to conceive and/or have had unprotected sex. You'll just have to wait and see if your period arrives or not :)
ok.i think i might be pregnant. i have been off birth control for about 5-6 months. And i have already started to get on a regular cycle at the beginning of the year. I calculated and my last period was the 23rd of April. And according to the ovulation calendar i am ovulating from the 4th of this month until the 9th of this month. And my husband and i had unprotected sex 4 times and we even did the pillow hip and legs up thing. And not one drop of it left me.(sorry if that is too personal). the only thing is he did have a lot to drink. But we hadn't had sex in 2 days which is odd for us. And i don't thik the alcohol affected his little swimmers.But today (the day after) i have a fuzzy feeling down stairs.And i am soooo extremely tired. And have this lighter than air feeling. And i was wondering if u think this could be early pregnancy symptom. I mean i had to force myself today to eat chickfila. And the thought of it now is making me want to go throw up. And help will be GREATLY appreciated!!

Hi inquestion - you're sense of feeling lighter than air is the kind of feeling I had - but - it is very early. All you can do is keep any eye out for other pregnancy symptoms over the coming weeks. Particularly look for any breast changes as these are often a very clear sign of pregnancy. Good luck!

i just started taking the birth control pill on sunday, i was off of it for a while. my boyfriend and i had sex on saturday, however he didn't cum inside me (that could probably be too much information..sorry) the pill usually messes up when i have my period, and i haven't gotten it yet. last month i had it twice, and i usually don't get it until the end of the month or early the next month. i've started to notice that i'm taking frequent trips to the bathroom at night. i dont have any of the other signs and it was just 6 days ago that i had sex, is there any way possible that i could be pregnant or am i worrying too much?
Hi Rose - it sounds like you're not using the birth control pill properly which means that yes, there is a high likelihood of you either being pregnant or getting pregnant. You know that you have to take it every day for it to do it's job? And it won't be effective protection until you have been taking it daily for a whole month, so right now it's not protecting you at all and you'll need to use an additional method of contraception. You do need to worry about it if you don't want to get pregnant, because the way you're going right now, you will get pregnant.

I was just wondering if it could be anything. i have noticed that i have had horrible head aches,slight cramping,back pain,extreme fatigue,and peeing a little bit more than normal,and have this feeling and glow about me...And my next menstrual cycle is not until the 23rd of this month.So i am in my ovulation days. :) I just didn't know how early these things tend to shpw up. I am trying not to get to excited. From what the gyno told me there is a high chance that i could be and last night we made sure we did a little extra and had unprotected sex again. My husband says right now we are playing the lotto. lol. He said if it happens now then it was meant to be and if it doesn't then we will try again later this year or next year. I am hoping that i am.Because for as long as i can remember i have dreamed of having kids. I even did a teacher apprenticeship class all throughout high school,and am working on my teaching degree in early education. I am just ready to be a mommy and share the joys of it with my family and friends. I will be the 1st grandchild as well on my mother and fathers side to have a child and probably will be the only one for at least 5-6 more years. But we plan to move to VA due to the fact my husband will be going through the officer program with the Maine corps.And i would love to have the baby before we leave the state.

I have quite a strange situation. I have been on depo provera (birth control) for 4 months, before that I was on depo lupron (a fertility drug) and just went back onto the lupron. I use it because I have endometriosis, not for the BC/fertility functions, until recently I was a virgin so it didn't really matter.
I guess my main question is that even though I am on the lupron is that even going to be effective as a fertility drug yet? or is the birthcontrol still in my system? My last birth control shot was 3 months and 1 week ago (you take it every 3 months) and then instead of getting the BC shot again when it was due I got the fertility drug. It has only been 1 week since I had the fertility shot.
I started having sex a few weeks ago while I was still on the BC shot. I know that it is stupid, but we have been having unprotected sex and he is pulling out. I don't think that I am pregnant but I am always left wondering since I don't get my period on either of these medications (I haven't had it in almost a year), but I have been spotting a little here and there for the past few days and I have been having cramps. I think I might all just be in my head since I am constantly wondering if I could be with no real way of knowing without my period to miss.
If I turned up pregnant my finace and I would be ok with it, but if not that would be fine with us too we'd rather wait until we are married.

Hi Susans, I am so confused! I took EPT. test this morning today on late day #15 and it came out negtive. I can't beleive it, because I am not only 2 weeks late, but also have felt it so very strong. I can believe that maybe the food cravings were all in my head, but all the other stuff to? The very light noticable brown spotting at just the right time for implantation, the constant lower back acke, the weird sensation in my stomach, the heart burn & constipation. I even began to get the metalic taste in my mouth. Also my period still did not come. I followed the directions morning pee,don't put the stick up,leave it on flat surface with window up. The line appeared in the window. 10 mins latter it read negative! My first question is I used a clean cup as the test suggested, but when I washed it out I forgot to dry it, could that really change the test? The test suggests to wait 5 days and if your cycle still doesn't show to retake it. Now my husband and I were finally starting to accept that I was really going to turn out pregnant so we have been having unprotective sex all this time. So if I wasn't then maybe I could be and we are back to it's to soon to know? I can't tell since my period is so late anyway, Uhh! I am only 29 so I doubt it's menapause, and I haven't been sick or on any medication and never took birth control in all my life, no traveling or drastic weight changes. I have only been this late once since puberty, years ago. What's killing me is I still feel pregnant. My husband is like this time net time as long as it happens, but he doesn't get that I feel like I can't even trust my own body. That I feel pregnant and it says I'm not and I trully don't know what to believe? HELP!
hello Susan i was wondering about my situation, i had miscaried about 7 yrs. ago and had to deal with endiometresmosis before tht .. So im kinda nervous about being prego now i know i am i have all tht tell tell signs itchy skin , darkend ariolas , over sensitive , chloasma , moodswings, heightened smells increased urination, extreem fatigue ,feeling dizzy, insomnia light flutters n pulling on naval n adomen backaches, yes most diffinately very cloudy urine... lota licosites n there.. very emotional ok so heres the thing i'm 42 and my last child i had is now 19 thts a major jump ea child i have are exzactly 2 yrs apart.. the oldest is 23 then my son is 21 i just got through sending thm to college n my youngest jus graduated in dec.. Im excited n nervous all at the same time ... its totally like starting over i jus want to be n stay healthy for them my mother bless her heart had neuropathy and she recently passed on. also my neice is a nurse n i 4 awhile there I couldn't keep my food down n had a very huge problem w meat extreem chest pains n she called it gerd tht was going on for about 4 mths but Thank God it supsided ,jus worried bc neuropathy i been showing early signs of it last yr. my dad also has diabetis my granmother also.. i'm just worried about gestistational diabetes what can i do to keep myself n this baby healthy..
Hi Susana, Nothing has changed in my situation I am here on late day #16 now. Real quick I forgot to add yesterday that the negtive was very light. The test explained that a postive might be light but it said nothing about a negtive.I am still so aware of my stomach and back and I feel caught in limbo between pregnant and not pregnant, I am really curious as to what your opinion is in all this.
Hi Gypsey - Take another test. You do get the odd dud and maybe this is what has happened or maybe your hCG levels are still too low to pick up since it is still very early. Did you leave the stick in the urine sample for a good 10 minutes? Which pregnancy test are you using?
Hi Susana and Happy Mothers Day. I used an EpT test. I did leave it 10 minutes and followed the instructions. My only error was the urin cup I washed out prior to use wasn't dry. Do you think this could change the test result? I have been readding alot about women getting false negatives over the past two days, I hope I am one of them. The box came with 2 tests and my husband made me promise to wait until my next cycle would be due about 12 or 13 days from now. If it still comes out negative and I have not gotten a regular cycle yet I am going to the doctor to find out what is up. I have now reached day 17 and am starting to get sore around the nipple area, but no change in color. If this is all in my imagination I should try for the winning lottery #'s LOL!

I have not been trying to become pregnant, I actually wanted to wait until I was in my 30's. I have used pills and depo in the past but for the last 4 years I have been on an IUD. My boyfriend and I have been together for about 5 months now and just in the last week I have been feeling flush, nauseous, achy and light headaches. so I'm a day late and really hoping I'm pregnant. I've had some minor symptoms, for example sensitivity to smell and diarrhea (which I've heard can happen instead of constipation). Candace - I'm not ruling out pregnancy (maybe give it another few weeks and then take another test) but it sounds to me like you may have an infection - do you have a temperature at all? I would suggest you go to see your doctor and he/she can check you over for infection as well as take some blood to test for pregnancy. Good luck!
Ashley - it's really too early to tell if you are pregnant. The bleeding may have been caused by penetration and not a period at all. It would also be extremely early to start being sick due to pregnancy. Are you still being sick? Nausea and vomiting in pregnancy usually continues and gets worse day after day for a while. If it was a one off episode it's very unlikely it's due to pregnancy. Are you protecting yourself?
Jasmine - clear discharge from your nipples might or might not be due to pregnancy. It's a very common thing for women to have clear liquid come from the nipple at any time and not necessarily when pregnant. Hi Susana, I'm finishing late day #23 trying my very best to stay calm, but as you know it isn't easy. I haven't taken the second pregnancy test after getting a negative on day 15.I have a feeling I will know soon though since I doubt my usual cycle would be M.I.A 2 months in a row. I just wanted to know what is the chance that a urin cup that was not dry prior to use would effect the test? Hi Gypsey :) A little water in the cup would make no difference. If there was a lot of water then it would dilute your urine and possibly make it a little harder for the test to pick up hCG especially when it's in low concetrations in the very early days anyway. I think you used a digital test? My own preference are the cheap strip ones because you can leave the strip in the cup and it's very obvious if you are pregnant by the pink line that appears. I also think they are less likely to give a false negative. I'm pretty sure you are pregnant, so I'm very much looking forward to hearing the result of your next test :)
Hi Susana, I can't thank you enough for answering all my questions never been pregnant before so I'm in the dark. Here on late day 25 I took the other EPT test that came in the pack and got another negative if I try again I will use the pink dye ones that you suggested. We are still trying to get me on my husbands insurence so no blood test yet. Hi Gypsey - I was sure you were going to come back with a positive result. I wonder what's going on? Maybe your last period was just exceptionally light which would mean you'd be due in a few days right?

One of the things it says is that if you have an ectopic pregnancy hCG levels can be extremely low. I do hope this is not the case with you and I don't want to worry you, but I think you really need to see a doctor to rule out the possibility since it's a serious condition.

Hi Gerry and welcome :) The chances are pretty good as long as everything is working normally. I would leave taking a test for a week or so if your period does not arrive (unless you have a few cheap pregnancy tests and don't mind using one!) You're just less likely to get a false negative if you wait a little while. Best wishes x

Around the 9th May I had what you could call a period, but was completely different to what I normally have, it was extremely light and watery and only lasted 2 days if that. I took a hpt but came back neg, but now it's two weeks later and now have yet another "period" can only tell its there when I wipe (sorry tmi)wouldn't know it was there otherwise, at first it was cm with brown blood but its now the third day and its a red colour and quite watery. Hi kristal, I would suggest you take another pregnancy test as you do have a lot of early pregnancy symptoms! Whatever the result of the test, do go and see your doctor. Sometimes a negative test result when you are in fact pregnant can be a sign of ectopic pregnancy, so it is really important to get yourself checked out. Take care x
Hello Susana, I am hoping that you can help me. I had sex on day 5 of my cycle, and my cycle has been about 29-31 days recently. My boyfriend was inside of me unprotected for about 30 seconds and then we got a condom. I was still bleeding slightly at that point, but mostly brownish fluid as usually happens at the end of my period. Almost immediately after and since then, I've just felt "off." Hi BSeoul - it's very early on to say if you are pregnant or not, though you may be one of the women that know straight away. It seems unlikely to me, since your boyfriend was only there for a minute unprotected, but it does only take the one sperm. Unfortunately the only thing you can do right now is wait and see if your period arrives :)

Hi Jaimie - ideally you want to wait to do the test until your period is missed, so you've probably taken it a bit early to be sure of an accurate result. You do really need to test the first pee of the day as well, especially if you're testing early on.
You do have some potential early pregnancy symptoms, so there's of course a possibility of pregnancy, but you're just going to have to wait to see if your period arrives. That will be the clearest sign. Best wishes x

Hi Susana, I just wanted to provide an update on my situation! =| As mentioned above, my last period began 4/23 and I have yet to see my period. I've taken a couple HPT and they've been negative. I took a blood test on 6/3 and it was also negative(hope it wasn't too early). I'm sort of concerned because I have a feeling that I may in fact be pregnant but all my results are negative. I wasn't trying to get pregnant but if I am then I'm ready. At this point I'm not sure what to do because I really need to know. I'm a very outgoing person that likes to drink and smoke and certainly don't want to risk the health of my baby (assuming I'm pregnant). Any suggestions? I will wait to see if I get my period this month around the 21/22....

Hi Gerry, I'm certain I responded to you, yet my comment is not here - how weird! I would say get yourself to the doctors asap. One reason for a negative result can be ectopic pregnancy which is dangerous. You need to get that ruled out and also find out what is causing you to not have periods (whether pregnancy or some other reason). Best wishes x

So. I'm am totally confused as to whether or not I could be pregnant. Hi Princessa, Yes I think you did take the pregnancy test too early. If the spotting was implantation bleeding that's only 8 days ago and your best off not taking a test until at least 21 days after implantation to get an accurate result. Good luck!
Hi jaylee, I'm confused too, lol! Some women have periods while they are pregnant and some also experience implantation bleeding (see comments above for more of an explanation of how to tell the difference). As to whether you took the pregnancy tests too early you'll need to do a bit of math.
Last day you had unprotected sex + 5 days (time sperm can live) + 21 days. If you took the tests before that it would have been too early.
Susan it's been about 11 days since my last comment wich i'd like to say your response was very helpful with. Well since then I have been needing to use bathroom alot mostly at night! I tend to feel lightheaded around some smells and have been extremely tired! Is it to early to tell if these are signs?
It's difficult to say Precious, especially if you are trying to fall pregnant and are actively looking for some signs! If they are pregnancy symptoms they tend to get gradually more intense.

Hi Susana, i'm 20. My period started on the 21st June 2010 and lasted till 29th June 2010 and I have an average cycle of 35 days.
I had sex with the withdrawing out method without condom on the 1st day after my period ended on 30th June 2010.

Hey Susana, we are trying for a baby but I'm about 30lbs over weight :( I'm wanting to lose the weight. I don't exercise much but I'm wanting to immediately but since I do have a chance of being pregnant now, I'm afraid that it might hurt the baby. Would just starting to workout, would it be better to wait until after the baby is born to do extensive workouts (which is what I would like to do now) or should I just take it slow?

hi jens - wait a week then take another test, but do make sure it's the first urination of the day. hcg levels are pretty low in early pregnancy so that's why it needs to be done first thing (the hcg levels are higher in the morning).
Hi brandy - I'd suggest doing something gentle like swimming or walking 2 or 3 times a week. Hard core exercise if you're not used it might not be a good idea, but that doesn't mean you can't do anything, in fact it would be good to do some form of exercise.

I have a 3 year old daughter and didnt find out I was pregnant with her until about 7-9 weeks along. I am still with her father and we have sex often. Sometimes we use a condom and sometimes we do the "pull out". I started my period on June 26th and it lasted about 4 days. I havent had my period yet, its due any day, but I have been VERY tired to the point of catching myself trying to fall asleep on my drive home which is rare for me, when I lay on my left side at night to go to sleep I have been feeling this feeling (kind of like when I felt my daughter for the first time, butterflies / a poking feeling) it is really low on my left side and very strange. If I am pregnant is it possible to feel a baby this early!?? My boobs felt like they exploded in size yesterday and they are a little bit tender but not anything different then normal. The past 3-3 and a half weeks I've been really tired.. I've woken up 4 times feeling ill like if I moved to much I would throw up. I'll be dizzy for a while.. Then eventually it may go away on its own or I'll have to lay on the couch and doze it off. The past couple of times I've had sex with my boyfriend its hurt. I have to pee every 20 min.s... my breasts are tender to the touch.. I can smell EVERYTHING now. I'm not used to being able to smell. And I quite miss not being able to now... Food tastes stronger, like I'm just realizing what it tastes like.. and often times it grosses me out. I've gotten heart burn a few times while eating.. I've had a weird copper taste in my mouth for a while... And I just feel kinda light and heavy at the same time if that makes sense?

Hey there, So I need your opinion on this. At the beginning of June I had sex with a guy but he pulled out. Later that month I started dating my current boyfriend. On June 20th I got a normal period. Hi Susana, I am already a mother of one so I know some things about being pregnant but right now its just a nervous thing i guess. Last sunday the 25th me and my husband had sex and he went inside.. I have been worried ever since. But wednesday the 28th we had sex again and he did it again it was around 6 or 7 at night. Then later that night before i went to bed i had a little amount of blood and the next day it was a light brownish discharge. I know that sometimes when that happens it could be the implantation bleeding but i dont know if i could have concieved and then that happen within 3 days what do you think about it? Hi Susana! I've read a good majority of other people's comments and questions on here and I know alot of the stuff is repetitive answering for you (bless your heart for restating it over and over lol) but I figured it might be better to just give you my own little situation too. My periods were irregular due to ovarian cysts when I was a teenager and I would only have a period about every 2 1/2 to 3 months so I was on BC pills for about 3 years. Now that I am off bc pills it always varies (fun fun). My last couple periods though have been very normal and right around the normal 28day cycle, my last period started on June 28th so if my body is still being normal than I should have started on July 26th. Normally I would not worry too much but I experienced PMS cramps and a couple of days before I thought I would be due I saw a bit of dark brownish blood but only when wiping after using the restroom (sorry if TMI..) for one day only. and then after that I experienced a little more cramping but absolutely no other signs of a period!! I have very bad headaches almost everyday at least once a day with no change in normal habits and sometimes my stomach feels like little butterflies almost like an anxious feeling. I am often nauseous and have to excuse myself from the dinner table from the smell, starting about a week and a half ago. What is your opinion? Should I take a test or wait to see if my symptoms continue/get worse? sorry for writing a book LOL :X
Hi Susana, My Husband and I is currently trying for our second child but because I've got irregular periods I cannot pinpoint when I'm ovulating. The only indication is the cervical mucus, anyways 4 nights ago I notice that my discharge was looking like raw egg texture, So I knew for sure I was ovulating. So we did it that night. The following day I felt a bit of a cramp in the stomach and numbness on the legs, also feeling tired and aching (but that might be cause by something else) however my breast isn't changing like the first pregnancy and I don't feel nausea. I can't remember when or how long it took for me to notice the symptoms when I gotten pregnant the first time.
This time around I was so sure that I was ovulating however the symptoms aren't strong enough or isn't the same as the first. Could you please tell me how long does it take to notice or have these symptoms? I have this strong intuition that I'm pregnant. Am I pregnant?

So I had a one night stand with a guy friend 13 days ago, && for the past couple of days I've been questioning whether Im pregnant or not for multiple reasons. Reason one is: I just joined the Army on the 29th of July && I had to go through the Meps && of course had to take a pregnancy test, but when I took it there was supposed to be 2 horizontal lines in order for me not to be pregnant but there was 1 && a very faint one they still passed me through though && I am now a soldier! :) but I'm scared that I might be pregnant I've gained 4 pounds in 3 days && I've been sleeping more than usual for me && I know that those are definite signs. Hi Susana, I had a miscarriage on June 12, 2010. I was appx. 5 weeks along, but my baby never developed. I had what I think is my "normal" period on July 12, 2010 (this year) and my hubby and I are ttc. My breasts are sore, but my period is not due until the 9th of this month (August). I'm so anxious to find out if i'm pregnant again or not. I've been using a webpage "mymonthlycycles" to get appx. ovulation dates, etc. and my hubby and I were active from days 12 of my cycle until day 19th or 20? What do you think the odds of my conceiving again be? My breasts are sore, and I've had light cramps, but I read that it could be implantation cramps. I bought a hpt from the dollar store. Should i use it now?

Hi Susana, my name is Amy. I posted two comments last week. I just wanted to give you an update. I am definitely pregnant. yeah!!!! i am 4 weeks pregnant. I ended up going to my obgyn today because i am spotting. they showed me in my ultrasound that i have a sac in my uterus, but its too soon to see the fetus. however, they now have to do beta tests to see if the pregnancy is going to progress or not. i am so nervous. the doctor says it could be implantation bleeding, but it could also mean a miscarriage. my bleeding is light and brown. any suggestions? please, i am desperate.
my husband and I are trying to have a baby. We tried during my ovulation days. I got some cramping and my belly feels somewhat strange. I took a test even though I am still a week out from my period. It was positive. What are the odds its a false positive since I took the test early?
Hi Elizabeth - I'm sorry to hear that :( You didn't say before what contraception you'd been using? If it was hormone based like the pill or injections it can take a good while for your body to get back to it's natural state and it can often take up to 18 months of being hormone free to concieve. I have a tough one for you. My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant and have run into some problems. Every month I end up getting a regular period. I experience many of the symptoms above and this has been a reaccurring "theme" for the past 4-5 months.. At first, we didn't really pay attention to my ovulation cycle and just hoped it would be easy, as it is for a lot of couples. But after a few months of coming out with the same results, not pregnant, we decided to really focus and pay attention to my cycle and plan. We did so and I experienced: Sensitivity to smell, nauseousness, not feeling right, very sore and sensitive breasts, swollen or enlarged breasts, and noticeable veins in breasts. I have really been paying attention to my body and feel abnormal every month only to be let down with the same outcome... Thoughts?

I started taking metformin about three or four months ago for my pcos. To help with my weight issue to to see if it could get my periods back to regular. Iv been using protection with my husband because the dr said it would be harmful to fetus if I was to conceive while taking it. Hey Susana! So the first four months of my pregnancy were so hard. I actually had to be on Iv fluids for 2 weeks straight for dehydration. It was an at home care thing so it wasn't so bad. It helped me a lot. The doctors actually said that I had hyperemesis gravidarum. It has passed but can last up to the full nine months. I mean I still have my days where I am not feeling good at all but by far so much better then the first four months where I could keep nothing down unless I take my nausea medication Zofran and sometimes it would still be hard for me to eat. Anyways I am 22 weeks and when I was 18 weeks the perinatal doctor did a 4D ultrasound and saw that we are having a baby girl! my husband and I are so excited! Being sick was so worth it for our little girl and we cannot wait to meet her. My Estimated Due Date is Jan 8 2011. Thanks so much for this blog because I have learned a lot from other people and this really gives me comfort. Thanks again! :D

I am supposed to get my period on 24th. Whole this week since Monday I had sore breast and very increased apetite, with some nausea in mornings and tiredness in afternoons. Then, last night I got bad cramp on my left ovary and by this morning my breast arent sore anymore, but Im still tired and I ate well. Susana... I was taking some kind of birth control pill but I have no idea what the name of it was, it was whatever my doc had proscribed for me. But I only took it for like 3 months, and when I quit taking them was about 7 months ago. We still haven't had any luck. We are thinking we will just not worry about it & just maybe its not the right time for us to have kids yet. Never know..

I've enjoyed reading your comments and responses. My husband and I just married last month and had intercourse the day before, during, and after the suspected ovulation day. I had a Mirena IUD for a year prior with wacky periods coming and going. I decided to get off of it two months before our wedding since we wanted to try asap after. Since I was off, I used an iPhone app to track my periods and last week we tried for the first time. He is so cute, saying he didn't know why I kept calling it "trying" to get pregnant since he "knew" he'd get me pregnant the first time. Well, I've been on bc (lunelle, the pill, the ring, then mirena) for the last 5+ years and I want to know if it'd screw up my cycles, and/or if it's too early to follow my period to find out when I'll ovulate-- as of now my phone has based it's suggested ovulation based on my last two periods. If that's reliable then great, my only problem is waiting another ten days for my projected period to start (I am soo anxious!). If the birth control could've messed up my cycle, what is the best way to track ovulation so we can get pregnant soon??? Thank you!!!
If you want to find out for sure when you are ovulating (or if you are ovulating) use the ovulation test strips. I say if, because it can take some time to start ovulating normally after using hormone based contraceptives.

Thank you for your reply. Reading about ovum without genetic DNA (from an earlier comment and response you posted) and now this (that I may not even be ovulating) has me a little down. It seems there are so many unintended pregnancies out there, and yet there are so many obstacles (many more then the two above) for those of us doing everything we can to become pregnant. I took my first ovulation kit about 4 days ago and it read no surge, do you have a recommendation on how frequent to test? Thanks for your help!
You're welcome. You need to test everyday for a few months if you want to pinpoint ovulation, but to be honest it's more fun just to enjoy your relationship with your husband and wait for nature to take it's course. It's not worth you getting stressed out about at this point. Just make love as often as you can and relax!

Hi Andrena - I think you misread the instructions! Wash the receptacle you are *going to* pee in thoroughly, then zap it in the microwave to sterilize it. Put it in a clean plastic bag for the morning, so it's already for you to test your very first pee of the day.
Hi, Susana. I'm seventeen, and on oral contraceptives. I missed a pill in July when my boyfriend and I had sex, and we used a condom. He checked it after and said it hadn't broken. I've had a regular (but lighter since I'm on the pill) period, but I've heard of women having a cycle and being pregnant. I've been feeling really nauseous since then and was a little late for my period that month I missed a pill. My breasts are tender and sore, have been for maybe a couple months? So if your period is COMPLETELY irregular such as coming anywhere from 6 weeks to 2 1/ months, how would you have any idea of when a pregnancy test will be accurate or when you ovulate? Last time I thought I was pregnant I took as test 6 weeks after my missed period and took them periodically for 2 weeks my next period came (it was a strange light one). Susana ! We're pregnant! I was sooo discouraged when our first month of trying wasn't a success. The second month I took it easy and thought we'd just making love every other day and it'd be bound to work. Then I thought, what if that weakened his sperm count for the big ovulation time? Well I didn't need to worry! I missed my period the first day I was supposed to start my cycle, and was so excited I couldn't wait till the next morning to test. I tested positive that night and have been walking on air since. Even the sore breasts that are so painful make me happy to know my baby is on it's way. There are so many concerns still, I am worried but trying to enjoy my early pregnancy. I have these thoubts and fears that it'll all disappear, that I'll miscarry or have one of the other major issues affecting pregnant women. The second trimester is when I can feel more comfortable, right? There is less of a chance I'll miscarry and by then I'll know if it's ectopic (sp?) or other relevant dangers would be addressed? Emily - if you don't want to get pregnant why are you having unprotected sex? That really doesn't make sense. Please be sensible and protect yourself each and every time you make love. For now you will just have to hope your period arrives.

It looks like you've had unprotected sex at the time you are most likely to be fertile, so Aunt flow may not be coming to visit for a while.

A test should be accurate now if you do it right. In the early days and weeks of pregnancy the hCG hormone levels are low so making sure you test your first pee is important as the first pee has the highest concentration of hormones in it. Good luck :)

I'm not late on my period, in fact I'm about 2 weeks away from starting...However I have stopped my pill in september and I don't know if the symptoms I'm experiencing are from that or if I could possibly be pregnant. My husband and I are trying. Two days ago my husband and i noticed very visible blue veins in my breasts from the top that go down through and around my nipples and the little bumps are all around my nipples. They seem to always be erect when they usually are not. They feel very heavy, I've had some light cramping and some dizzy spells...Is it way to soon to know? Too soon for a test? Thank you!
They are strong indicators of pregnancy, especially the heavy breasts and blue veins. It's not too early to have symptoms, for some us they are begin within a day or two. You won't be able to get a reliable test result yet though. Wait until the day your period is due and do one then. Best wishes :)

Hi susana, wonder if u could help, I have the marina coil in for over a yr. I had one in for 5 yrs before that after i had my daughter, and it worked great. My problem is a just dont feel right, I hav'nt had a period for over 6 yrs,the coil was put in to stop the bleeding, so it has been great, no bleeding at all. Maybe you have some input or outside opinions. I'm afraid I may have gotten pregnant in the midst of switch birth control methods. For months I've dealt with bad side effects from the Pill so I'm switching to an implant. About 3 wks ago I missed 3 pills while out of town. When I came back I took 2 more but then decided to stop and use other methods until my apt for my new BC. A wk ago my boyfriend forgot and we had a slip up. The next day I took Plan B. I've taken it before and right away felt it something & within 2-3 days had my period. It's been a week and nothing. I'm also feeling different. I now found out my boyfriend also forgot the day after I stopped taking them but figured "the hormones were still in my system". He could be right. I'm afraid he's not though. So it's not been 2 wks since the first slip up.
I kind of had this gut feeling the first time he slipped up even though he didn't tell me. Don't know why or how but just had this feeling and all of a sudden started having the urges to adopt a pet or take care of someone....like motherly urges. I ignored them though. Now for the last week I've been feeling bloating and cramping but not like I normally do and none of the back pain I normally have before my periods. I get these unusual feelings from my ovary region all the time that aren't really painful but just different. My sense of smell may be slightly heightened and I have a couple instances of feeling dizzy and blacking out like I'm going to faint after standing up. I'm also drowsy a lot. I can't tell if these are signs I'm pregnant, side affects from the Plan B or I'm just being paranoid. I'd like to go get a home test but I'm not sure if it will be accurate right now. Other signs I'd think I would have like tender breasts or moodiness (happens all the time with birthcontrol/period) I don't have at all.

About 6 weeks ago i had sex with my boyfriend (we used a condom, but i wasnt on birth control yet). I had light brown spotting about a week before my period and i was worried that meant it was implantation bleeding and i felt pretty sick at times. However, i got my period at my regular time. It was about a day shorter than usual, but otherwise it seemed normal/heavy enough. On the first day of my period i started my birth control which made me feel really sick and i had really sore breasts along with spotting all the time. I finished my first pack of birth control now and i got my period during the sugar pill week, but it was really light (which i know is normal), this all sounds really stupid, but i cant seem to shake the feeling that i got pregnant. Its stupid because i have taken many pregnancy tests (one really recently) and they show up negative, but i cant seem to find comfort in that. I would be about 6 weeks pregnant now, so i would definitely show up on a urine test, right?! I just cant shake the feeling that i am, but maybe i feel this way because im stressing/obsessing about it so much. I have put on about 5ibs recently, which isnt helping my concerns haha. You seem really helpful, so i thought i would voice these silly concerns. please write me back..

Sorry ladies it is getting increasingly hard to answer all these questions and the answers are pretty much the same anyway :) So here are some top tips for all of you:
1. Wait until your period is *missed* (ideally 1 - 2 weeks after it's missed) before you take a pregnancy test.
2. Make sure you test the first pee of the day.
3. If it's negative, your period does not arrive and you still feel pregnant, go see your doctor and ask for a blood test.
4. If you have not used contraception and/or have not used it properly then chances are high that you are pregnant.
5. You can still be pregnant if you have used Plan B.

Hi! I think I may be pregnant. I'm on birth control but missed 2 days but they weren't in a row. I missed the 19th and the 28th. I have been "feeling" as if I'm pregnant mentally and physically. I've had multiple symptoms! I have nausea light cramping in my lower abdominal region BAD headaches alot aversions to foods I use to like and liking foods I use to hate! And my appetite had completely changed. I'm either super hungry or not hungry at all and nothing sounds good to me then. And a few days ago I started getting backaches. I was supposed to start my period between Sunday and Tuesday. I'm NEVER later then Tuesday because the bc regulates it. Well it's Thursday and no period. However I have had some dark brown spotting the past two days but it's nothing like my period. My period is heavy and red. This is dark brown discharge and it's not even enough for a panty liner. I mainly just seen it when I wiped and today it's lighter then it was like it's going away. Implantation bleeding maybe? I took a pregnancy test today even though it's prob to early and it said negative ofcorse. I have a doctors appointment tomoro and I'm really not sure how it's gonna go. I have a question, in the month of October I had my period on the 2nd and the 17th. This month(November) I got it on the 10th it only last 3 days. Two weeks before my period I was getting awful cramps, felling hungry, so I thought it may be due to ovulation but I was like that until I got my period, so for two weeks was like if I was pms-ing :( also I was always tired, barely made it to the gym, sleep like crazy, my body ache.
After my period things are not much different, I was hoping to be normal, but still eat like crazy, get odd cravings, gained 6 pounds, am VERY emotional and I can't seem to understand why. My breast around & underneath my nipples I get like an itching pain (it's the same feeling that I felt when I was pregnant before and when I ovulate and get my period) but now it's more frequent. I have a terrible gas (which I fear bc I also experienced before i knew of my first pregnancy). Could it be possible I concieved in the month of October, and just got a short period? Hi! I messaged you like several months ago & then I messaged you again like a couple of weeks ago.. Well I missed my period on saturday, & so sunday morning I took a test & it came out positive.... Hi Elizabeth - Looks like congrats are in order! It's *very* unlikely to get a false positive. If you can wait, do the test in the morning it will be a lot more accurate.

Recently things have seemed a lil weird.
My periods dont ever come on the same day. They're anywhere from 21 to 30 days apart. They go 5days, they're bright red, & pretty heavy; especially the 1st 3days then it starts slowing down.
My last period, though, was weird. I don't think I've had one like this before. It was a dark red & brown color & pretty light from day 1 & it only last maybe 4days.
Then other things like, I'm tired all the time. Well, I was kinda that way anyway, but recently its like I have NO energy at all.
I haven't had any nausea, I dont think. I fell really nauseated when I get hungry(which is about every 2hrs). Almost fills like I'm starving but as soon as I start eatin, I'm not really hungry anymore.
I use the bathroom 3, sometimes 4 times a night.
The last day of my last period, the swelling in my breast went down. About a week later, they are a lil bigger & a lil bit firmer.
My boyfriend says he thinks I'm pregnant. I really dont know. A part of me thinks, well, its could be possible, maybe. Another part of me thinks it may just be in my head. Haha...

I talked to the ER nurse about this and asked her if I should take the test or if I should wait til next week.
She said that with the info that I gave her that I’m due up for my period. It is now 12/12/10 and so far no period and I didn’t have no period the week after I took the pill. This is the first time I’ve taken this.
I’m trying to let my husband know that it’s k even though we’re separated. We’ve been talking and working on having another little one way before we separated but we’re still married.
I do have preg. Test stick here at the house with me. I want to take the ER nurse’s advice but I just want to double check on this of the info that I gave above.

Hi Dawne, From my calculations of the dates you've given your period should be due around the 20th December if you have a 28 day cycle? You'll need to wait and see if it arrives and if not take a pregnancy test then. (It's best to wait until after the period is missed before taking the test).
The morning after pill can only prevent implantation of the fertilized ovum - if it has already implanted then the pill has no effect. (It will not damage the ovum in any way so there is no need to worry about that if you are pregnant.) Some people have a period straight away after using it, some don't, so we can't know if you are or are not pregnant based on that.

Hi Amber - the chances are extremely high that they are all correct! The best thing to do now is go and see your doctor and get it confirmed.
ok my period was over a 2weeks before me and my boy friend did it but he never got in and am still a virgin and now i have a flu so i cant really notice if i have early pregnancy signs or not but i always have increased urination so i cant notice that either but after we did it iv been moving around normally i dun feel tired i try to jump a lot so it maybe cant pick the egg up or something i just need help am 19 so pllllease help

I have a few questions for you too. Well I have just gotten married on the 17th Dec 2010. that was the last day of my period (lucky for us :-) ) normally my period would come between the 3-5th of every month. well my husband & I had said once we were married we would try for a family. so we started right away. we have been trying 1-2 times every day apart from 4 days were we couldn't. So 1-2 everyday since the 17th of Dec 2010. My period started on the 12th Dec 2010, I put it down to stress of the wedding etc. but anywho over the past two days I have been some pain in my tummy and today I was so sleepy and felt sick. I haven't been sick just felt it. I feel blotted and dizzy. I have taken a preg test two days ago incase it I got preg on the wedding night but it came back neg. do you think I should wait until the 12th to test again? or try on my normal period date being the 3-5th of the month?
I am hoping I am pregnant, but I don't want to put all my eggs in one basket either.
any information will really help.

I had done stuff with my boyfriend 2 days ago and my breast are swollen and hurt and he noticed within 2 days they are already getting bigger and I have been feeling very dizzy and most of the time i have to stop to catch my balance and I feel tired ALOT.

Jacqueline _ Yes wait until the 12th Jan and then do another test if your period hasn't started.
Emma - I don't know if you are pregnant - my psychic abilities are not that strong ;) It would be unusual to get strong pregnancy indicators so soon after sex, so it's probably due to something else like a virus. It's too late to take the morning after pill now, so if you are you are and if you're not you're not - there's nothing you can do except wait for your period. Just be more careful in future!

I have a question. Alright I stopped my period friday (12-31. And had sex saturday, sunday, monday, tuesday, and early wednesday morning. I don't want to give too much information. But I am not on the pill and he went 11 times. And I started feeling a little queazy (can't spell)tuesday and wednesday. I am wondering if you know if I could be pregnant. I know your not pyschic and can't just tell. And I was also wondering since it was right after my period and like 3 days because my luteal phase. Should I wait for my missed period. Or would getting the first response test be a good thing to do a couple days before my missed period.
I am usually a very regular 27 day cycle and when my period comes it is usually very heavy and very painful for 7 days exactly; never early and never late. On December 22 I ovulated, and my bf and I slept together 2 times the days before and during my ovulation, and he didnt pull out. About a week later on the 28th I began to get nauseous on an off and the next day I began having slight cramps, which continued for a couple days on and off. My period was due to start January 5, but instead on January 1st I began having moderate cramps and light bleeding. This light bleeding and moderate cramps lasted one day and the next 2 days I just had the light bleeding and slight cramps here and there, and then it stopped the evening of the January 4th and now I am having no bleeding but my other symptoms remain. I have been feeling nauseous, backache, slight cramping in abdomen off and on, urinating more, incredibly fatigued and drained, bloating in my abdomen, and very very emotional. I took a test on the 5th when my period was actually due since the bleeding had stopped, but it was negative. Could the early, light period I had been implantation bleeding? And could I have just tested too early? Thanks for any advice you can give me! :)
It could have been implantation bleeding. Do another test in a week or so and make sure you test your first pee of the day. If it's still negative then I'd suggest getting checked out by your doctor.

Thanks for the advice. I am still having all those symptoms, plus now I am noticing more visible blue viens on my breasts and little bumps on my areolas. Are these signs of pregnancy? I will test again on the 12th since that will be one week after my period should have started. I will keep ya posted, and thanks again!! :)
Here are my symptoms but I need advice. I only began to notice this week. I missed my period a few days ago. My nipples have been getting sore. I feel like I'm going to throw up almost every day for a week and a half. I had sex with my bf and I began to bleed. I have been feeling tired lately, but I dont know if its b/c I've been high or what. I dont know if the nausea feeling because I haven't been eating because I just feel sick. Im really moody, to the point where my bf just broke up with me today. I don't know Im in a bad mood b/c my bf irritates me sometimes or its because that I am pregnant I had a sharp cramp in my uterus area a few times. My skin is getting bad. Does this sound like I am pregnant or its just my body acting up. I've only missed my period by a few days, but the nausea feeling is getting pretty rough.

i gave birth to my 2nd daughter 15 weeks ago (didnt breast feed as think i didnt produce milk this time) and have had 2 normal heavy periods i came off sunday and had sex 3 times with my husband woke up this morning my breasts have grown and are very swollen and im getting dizzy spells where i have to stop what im doing and lean against the wall and close my eyes, do u think i could be pregnant by what you know of ive had 2 girls but my memories awful lol!! please help !!!

My last period was on Dec. 23rd and my periods are about 3 weeks apart. I've been having cramps like I'm going to start for about 4 days, but nothing. My boobs are also hurting like before starting and seem larger than normal. My body just feels different all together, same as you I just don't know how to explain it! I'm feeling emotional without anything sad, etc. I've experienced headaches for the past 4 days. And cravings, but no feeling sick, thank goodness. Hope to hear from you soon.

Hey, me and my parter having been trying to get conceive for a while now I got my implant out in july 2010 then stopped taking any contraception my periods got back on track even though I was still trying. However, my last period was on the 26th of November 2010 and its not the 23rd january 2011 and have had no period! I have down a urine pregnancy test from my GP and it came back negative but I'm still not on my period! In the morning I do feel sick but I'm not sick, I spoke to my mother-in-law and she said that the doctors may decide to do a scan is that possible? Kayla xx
